No one should be shocked at Freo, they genuinely bottled 6 games last year because they couldn’t kick straight, deserved to be 5th or 6th.

Their pressure game is absolutely unconditional, which allows their defenders to set up their intercept game and their half forwards and outside players are almost the hardest workers out there. Switkowski, Schulz and Colyer are absolute repeat sprint animals.
There team defense is good but it is no real shock given they started their build with Ross Lyon and then Longmuir who was defensive coach at the Pies. Players where already conditioned to defend. Just had to add some attack into the game. I think this is why the Pies and Hawks have looked good at time as well. Both sides building off the back of a defensive culture. May not work every week but it is a strong base. Unlike us as we have been trying to build defense of the back of attack for 10 years.

Having watched his first season with Box Hill, it astounds me he slipped through three drafts before finally getting picked up.

He was a match winner from his very first practice game at icon park.
Another of those small vanilla guys who people question how much upside and from memory he was not 100% in the last season he played VFL.

Admittedly I was only there for his first year, but he never struck me as vanilla. He did some special things that came out of nowhere and was pretty consistent for an 18-year-old small forward playing against men. The knock on him was his slight build. This might be an obscure blast from the past and they had different roles, but he reminded me a bit of Tim Northe from the 2010 draft pool in terms of having that type of body frame that had him pushing shit up hill to get a look in.

It's a good thing that recruitment is nw starting to moving beyond just putting a line through smaller, lighter players.

Freo are a very good side. Extremely well balanced in defence with a very strong midfield. Should finish top 4 from here.

Random thought while watching the Cats/North game. Why do we waste the the time of the goal umpire telling the field umpire why he wants the review, and then the field umpire relaying that to the review team? Just mic the goal umpire up to the review box and let them call fro the review. Would save 30 seconds every review.

Worst case is that the goal umpire is calling for a review while the field umpire is paying a free. In that case the free continues play while the goal umpire just cancels the review

Travis Colyer still got the pace but I reckon his ball handling has got even worse over 10 years if that is even possible.

You simply can't bring common sense into umpiring don't you realise.

It's got to be looked at surely
We all love to poke a bit of fun towards the Kangas, but the club is debt free for the first time in decades. AFL only care about the $.

Tasmania, if they get the chance to enter the comp, deserve their own team. Not what will be considered a castaway team cause they were shit.

So, would the locals, many of whom already have an allegiance to an AFL club, suddenly support a club that has been relocated? Or would they perhaps be persuaded to drop any allegiances and support a new franchise.

We have a member on here who has stated that once TAS get a team, he will follow them first and foremost and not the Don's. Would they drop us and support the Kangas if they moved? I doubt it.

Let's face it, they are not going anywhere. It would be like the Swans/Suns/GWS, it's a generational change if they relocated.

How long do you think they will he debt free getting 8k to home games?

Anything is possible if their supporters drop off them. That's against Geelong too so you would imagine they had a few there.

GWS got over 12K in Canberra against St Kilda and they are hardly setting the world on fire. Perhaps as you say they are safe no matter what but they could test that by heading into worst case scenarios.

I just don't see it happening, nor do I think it should. Forget the so called rivalry we have with them for a minute. We have been totally insignificant for around 20 years, got caught up in a doping case that some say not only still hampers us, but will take a generation or longer until we stop copping s hit about it.

Now, we have a big supporter base, but how long will that last without continued success? Fast forward another 20 years where we still did nothing and supporters/memberships dropped off.

Would you still support the Broome Bombers if we were forced to relocate due to reduced support? Or would you give the proverbial FU to the AFL?

As I said, a North move is a generational change for a new supporter base (look at Sydney for that). But, how many supporters would just walk away from the sport as they feel as if the AFL screwed them over.

Had a look over on their boards to gauge the vibe.

Here's an alternative viewpoint by one of their own -

I am worried that if we allow this to continue on as is, we are getting into Fitzroy territory.

We are pretty much giving the AFL ammunition if we continue down this path.

No one will come to watch, membership will drop and we will be the perfect target to justify bringing in Tassie at our expense.

FWIW If we became unsustainable I would support the Broone Bombers but I understand many wouldn't- which would represent a real loss to the AFL. North not so much though.
