This is what annoys me about our club. Collingwood have won a flag (2010), rebuild (circa 2015), played in another grand final (2018) all whilst we try and scrape together enough relevance for David King to post something proposterous in the pre season.

I look at Hawthorn, they're making great strides after some tough calls. Us? We'll just sit on our hands again

When was the last time Freo won a flag?

Or we could be Melbourne and go 56 years.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't keep making changes and adjust to get out of old habits but perpsective is something. A little bit of luck plays a part too.

Not winning a final for 17 18 years is a recipe for success?

Ok, I'm convinced :D

If you're going to sell home games, you want to damn near make sure you win them, and take the 4 points home. Saints lose a game they should've won, now come back to Melbourne after a contested slog in the humidity, and are expected to get up and compete against the benchmark of the competition next week.

Max King is Joe Daniher Mark II but with out the taking the piss element. Those set shots are bad.

Thank God that’s over, now I can watch some proper football. Why the hell can’t we play as half as good as Sydney is right now? They’re not stopping, going backwards or just lying there watching the game pass them by.

Larkey gets 2 weeks for as big a snipe as we've seen recently. Lucky Young wasn't injured.

Not sure why Young is in trouble. Zurhaar clutches at his chest and there is virtually no head contact with the surface because he's tense and not out.

Took a risk but pulled it off, delivering some punishment to the modern master in the process.

Freo lose a bunch to H&S protocols. Still have Nathan Wilson in their emergencies. Are able to bring in two pretty talented key forwards into the side. They're gonna be scary good in 2-3 years time

I thought the same but I reckon the horizon is nearer. by years end I can see them being legit top 4 contenders.

Lots of heat coming on Lukosius and Rankine.

There is something about GC's overall list management that doesn't seem to be able to escape the Scott Claytoning of the early years.

You're back at the start of a rebuild you have 3 top 8 picks, and you take an oversized half forward and a small forward. A few years earlier it was a small forward and uncompetitive half back in the top 10.

Just dumb selections. It's really no excuse for these recruiters to rely on 'but everyone else would have taken them'. Your job, Gold Coast recruiters was to build your list. What are you doing using high picks on anything other than KPPs and mids?

I went hard on Lukosius early because it was immediately obvious that he was not a KPP. He doesn't engage body contact, he plays outside footy. That fine, he's an amazing kick and it suits those attributes and his running capacity. Dumb to take him so early.

Not enough focus seems to be placed on how games will translate to AFL and how pieces fit together.

We will likely face the same issue at the end of the year. If we do not have access to the midfielder we need trade the pick or take a tall. You're not getting paid money to pick a player in the rage Cal has them and being picked in the top 5 is not going to magically imbue the player with attributes he does not have.

imagine you take the 2x King's and set the forward line up (and reduce the go home pull) for 10+ years
Top it off with Smith at 6 (risky, but could work)

Witts tapping down to Rowell, Anderson, Miller, Smith
kicking to whichever King takes your fancy.

Yep.

Or you plant Ben in defence and they're your bookends for 10 years.

I don't love using really high picks on KPDs but there are always exceptions.

every so often the talent comes along and I think it was a safe bet on the King's.

It's funny how severely overthought that draft was for GC.

They managed to take 1 substantial player leaving a King, Bailey and the Dangerfield like attributes of Rozee on the table.

How do any of that list management crew still have job?

Anyone else barracking for Port tonight?
