St Kilda won 19 straight from round 1, that was pretty close
And who beat them? 🤔 Then they lost to a team that finished botton 4, so they came close, but not close enough!

We're shit atm, so we need to hang on to the memories from 22 years ago and celebrate them, cause we have not much to be proud of recently. Plus we won the flag, they didn't. Don't spoil my party!

The one crack Melbourne has is you can score a run of goals against them. You just need to be hard defensively over 4 quarters to keep them out of the game. Port held them up for ages but went so defensive they could not score. Other sides have managed to get a run of goals against them. Even we managed 4 in a row.

You can add Hately to the list. Give him time and he will get the ball.

Adelaide just needs to get the talent on the park. Fogarty, Milera, Hately. It's gone on long enough. You don't die wondering when your list is as ugly as Adelaide's is.

Something doesn't fit for me when you have these touted South Aussies you can't make work when they're exactly what you need to stop haemorrhaging top end talent.
If we didn't have Stringer already, I'd have advocated looking at Fogarty or even Cam Zurhar. Fogarty should get more opportunities when Thilthorpe really starts to hit his stride.

Sam Berry might be one to keep an eye on. Averages 27 disposals and 8 tackles at SANFL level. Not translating as much to AFL level - 16 disposals - but players like Sloane and Keays probably means his role is different. Ranks elite for tackles at AFL level though.

Gold Coast have that golden run of improvement from that 3rd tier players that have elevated them this year.

Looking at guys like Powell, Ainsworth, Fiorini (even though he played 2s this week?), Ballard etc.

The two big guys up front have been very, very astute pick ups though. Casboult and Chol for effectively nothing.

Believe the words used when Freo did a skim milk version of this to us was ‘disgraceful’ ‘insipid’ and ‘pathetic’, can only hope the Dees are held to the same standard, or flip side, Fremantle are just very, very good.

You are on another planet if you think Brodie becomes this if he comes to Essendon.

With respect Package I despise this comparative analysis, as common as it is.

Just like I hear North talking about how it hung in with Melbourne.

What level are the sides playing to? I reckon Melbourne was at about 70% of its GF against North. If that.

I reckon Freo went much harder against Melbourne which was confrontrd with a rebellion.

We were rubbish against Freo, witches hats. Melbourne was not witches hats. Freo came to pick apart Melbourne's strengths. Shit even went with a tag on May and a rampant Oliver.

What it proves is that Freo is now a really good side. It says nothing about us.

Going to pull you up on Fogarty and Zurhaar as neither has the tank for the middle. Neither even looks fit.

It's not the same as specialist mids grinding out game after game at the lower level.

Both could be mids, I guess, but it's not because of what they are doing as mids.

Still trying to work out why the GC have to play in Darwin other than the recruiting zone connection.
They are in a developing market and playing a winnable game away from home.
AFL is a strange beast at times.

Anyone taking pleasure in seeing the Suns doing well?
Yes.
Have been saying for a couple of years they would be better once they stopped training in a paddock with portables for rooms. Lots of people like to kick them but the AFL stuffed the first attempt of the Suns . They did the right thing by putting Mark Evans in control in 2017 and despite Tony Cochran being a polarizing he is a decent operator. The junior numbers in school participation on the GC are decent.
It was always going to be a 25 year project and the AFL turned it into a 35 year project by doing a half arsed effort and wasting the first 8 or so years.

Says everything about the hyperbolic analysis surrounding us as a club. Freo are very very good, the sky is not falling for us because we get smacked by a very good football side, today they proved that extremist analysis to be, if we’re being frank, crap.

What Freo does 6 weeks later doesn't say anything about the quality of our performance.

I agree with the idea that too much is made of week to week performances, the pressure relieving win being almost the dumbest thing I can think of, but, again, none of this makes our performance any better.

Just a matter of time until GC becomes another Sydney, that is, a boutique destination club.

It should not be hard to sell playing on the beach, where it's always summer, and where the only thing more plentiful than the cocaine are the metre maids.

When the club is smacked on the stats sheet and it marries up with the scoreboard, yeah, its pretty easy to lay into us.

We can make all the excuses in the world but for a young list who played finals last year, we have fallen into a hole and been unable to pull ourselves out of it.

Yeah, but I wouldn't play them as mids anyway. I like Zurhaar as a forward especially because he keeps working and isn't shy to contest. Ideally we'd have the midfield sorted so Stringer or a similar player can stay forward more, although I love what Stringer brings to the middle. Rare combo of skillsets though, and we wouldn't be likely to find it again for a while I wouldn't have thought.

The meter maids disappeared many many moons ago. Also, its not always summer, this year in particular, many places have been flooded 3 times this year alone. As for the coke? I'm sure there is always a plentiful supply, but I can't say for sure!🤪

Anyways, its good for the AFL and the Coast to have a football team on track to possibly make finals. If we cant make it, i hope the Coast do.

Off the back of playing in Ballarat, just imagine if they had a dozen 'home' games like most sides...

They handle the conditions so well, they should be playing in Cairns and Darwin as often as they can.

Does anyone recall whether Southport were ever in the discussion as the expansion club? A lot of the facilities, the admin infrastructure etc. would already have been there. What was the thinking behind starting from scratch with the Suns (and that naff Americanised name).
