I can only hope this behaviour isn't normalised across the league at any time in the past or currently.

Sadly I don't think it would be unheard of in regards to the separation aspect.

One of the major issues clubs always talk about via media is "falling I to wrong crowd, hanging around the wrong people" etc.

Whether it's to this degree? I sincerely hope not.

This is truly a massive moment for the AFL and how they handle this.

I did actually make a comment along these lines earlier, and was going to delve a little more into the hypocrisy if the AFL don't go scorched earth about this on the people involved.

However, I think the health and wellbeing of the indigenous people is more important than making a comparison to what happen to us. Reviewing all the clubs at this point is the most important thing that can happen, even if it ends up uncovering some poor behaviour at our own club.

The AFL need to make a stand right now and show that this is completely unacceptable anywhere at any level.

Likewise. It better not have happened with us.

So this is obviously horrific and disgusting and as a non First Nations person I’m not remotely qualified to pass informed commentary but the motive for Hawthorn to actively release this now is so they don’t have to pay Clarkson out yeah?

Easy solution. You make contact with Yze and you simply ask if he was in any of the meetings .
Hodge is on SEN now and he has said he had no idea .
Is it that simple though? Hodge might have known, yet he's going to say he had no knowledge, because its career over if he did know and didn't do anything.

Doubtful. Can't see how this would prevent it.

This is disgusting. I wonder how the AFL cheerleaders in the media (Barrett and Co) will downplay this as it's clear they are invested heavily in the Clarkson "Savior" narrative.

Clarkson should be sacked from North immediately
Fagan should be sacked from Brisbane immediately

I wonder how much the "leaders" of Hawthorn at this time (Mitchell and Hodge) knew, accepted and encouraged this type of bullying.

Just a club full of Good Blokes.

Wouldn't that lead to mutually assured destruction?

Agree. I hope he's correct in he had no idea, but it would be hard to imagine someone with his stature at that club having no idea about it.

This is what worries me. We've heard of examples of it at a few clubs now. And I keep wondering about all of the players that have changed clubs unexpectedly, or walked out of the league, or ever commented or been rumoured to have difficulties about the support they need or whatever. I highly doubt that the three examples in that article are the only ones affected, they're just the ones the ABC knew about and who were willing to talk.

I can't even words.

Clarkson's contract with North doesn't technically start until November 1, after Hawthorn's last pay out. And in the mean time, Clarkson can't poach Hawthorn's players or staff.

It's more than just him not getting paid out, it's effectively career ending and probably loses his next job too. The whole house of cards that has been built around him will all come tumbling down.

We'll see.

They are extraordinary allegations which is a reason to proceed with caution.
I think it's very important to wait and see all sides and context for sure.

However with what is being alleged and reported, the only context that would absolve it is if it was complete fabrication.

I cannot see what benefit a player would see in making any of this up.

I think Nifft suggestion would be a good one because of this.

What does that look like?

Luckily, the ABC article tells you exactly what it looks like;

"Clarkson just leaned over me and demanded that I needed to get rid of my unborn child and my partner. I was then manipulated and convinced to remove my SIM card from my phone, so there was no further contact between my family and me. They told me I’d be living with one of the other coaches from that night onwards.

Were a couple of white football people to know that was off limits for First Australians?

Yes. Professional people employed to work with young Indigienous Australians should have a pretty good idea of this. Nevermind that this behaviour is also not OK if it was being done to white players and all.

Really not your best work today Bruno. Perhaps steer clear of this topic.

Three players and their families as interviewed by the ABC, and apparently an entire external report.

A fabrication of that proportion is extremely unlikely.

This is far worse than what Hird was hung for, as an aside.

Hard to see how the likes of Clarkson/Burt/Fagan can ever hold positions in footy again.

Yep, I'd say it's worse than both the Essendon debacle and the Adelaide camp, which were both pretty damn bad.

Systemic bullying of vulnerable young men, particularly those from Indigenous backgrounds who were more isolated from family and friends than the average player goes well beyond the sports performance arena.
