I did actually make a comment along these lines earlier, and was going to delve a little more into the hypocrisy if the AFL don't go scorched earth about this on the people involved.

However, I think the health and wellbeing of the indigenous people is more important than making a comparison to what happen to us. Reviewing all the clubs at this point is the most important thing that can happen, even if it ends up uncovering some poor behaviour at our own club.

The AFL need to make a stand right now and show that this is completely unacceptable anywhere at any level.

Oh absolutely.

My point was more using Hird (someone I've been very vocal about in the negative) as a comparison point in terms of the level of pariah those individuals should become within the industry for their actions/inactions.

Jesus christ this is *ed up. Genuinely feel bad for North (unless they knew and still hired him)
Oh yeah ... Feel terrible for them, let's get together and give them a sympathetic shoulder to cry on ..

Will Scott now wait and apply for the upcoming vacant North coaching role?

Seriously though, I actually feel sorry for North. At the time I was happy they got Clarkson, we didn't deserve him at such short notice.

Sadly, I'm not.

I hear far too many horrific stories when it comes to the treatment of First Peoples for this to be surprising.

It's probably naïve of me but I thought the AFL and by extension the clubs were more advanced in their respect of indigenous culture and their how they treat/work with indigenous people etc compared to the rest of society (in a general context).

Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. As has been said, a full league wide review should be undertaken to weed out any and all aspects of this behaviour.

Is it that simple though? Hodge might have known, yet he's going to say he had no knowledge, because its career over if he did know and didn't do anything.
So it is guilty until proven innocent then ?
I would think he would not know if it was only the senior coaching personnel.
If it was leadership group as well it would have been before now and the likes of Burgoyne would have known

Yep, I'd say it's worse than both the Essendon debacle and the Adelaide camp, which were both pretty damn bad.

Systemic bullying of vulnerable young men, particularly those from Indigenous backgrounds who were more isolated from family and friends than the average player goes well beyond the sports performance arena.
I know ours was bad, but in the grand scheme of things;

Asking/Pressuring an employee to terminate a pregnancy due to performance concerns > Mental anguish from the Crows camp > Injecting substances into people we can't/won't provide evidence on > Drug cheating

It is definitely far more advanced than it was 30 years ago, but many people and some clubs still have a long way to go.

Yes it's a damning article. It's shocking and sad.

But everyone is hanging the Hawthorn blokes and taking everything in the article as fact. What happened to two sides to every story? Innocent until proven guilty? Have we not learnt anything from our saga?
We were guilty my brother.

No its not, but the AFL is an industry that has a long history of covering things up. I'm not saying sack Hodge because he has said he wasn't involved just saying its really his only option to go on radio and say that.

We don't know if the player leadership group was involved, none of the allegations have mentioned them, so it wouldn't be appropriate to call into question their integrity and may constitute defamation or slander (lawyers pls help).

As to Fagan, Clarkson and Burt, it's not just an article. There's an external review that was commissioned by Hawthorn to ask for everyone's perspectives and find out what happened and make recommendations, and there are common themes among the allegations that name all three and bring their integrity into question.

Statement from Hawthorn:
"Earlier this year the Hawthorn Football Club engaged external First Nations consultants to liaise with current and former First Nations players and staff to learn more about their experience at the club," the statement began.

"This important work has raised disturbing historical allegations that require further investigation. Upon learning of these allegations, the club immediately engaged AFL Integrity as is appropriate.

"The club will continue to provide support to those who have participated in this process, and their wellbeing remains our priority.

"While the process indicated the current environment at the club is culturally safe, it also recommended that some of the club's current First Nations training and development programs should continue to be strengthened.

"The club places the best interests and welfare of our players and staff as our number one priority.

"Given the matters raised are confidential, the club will not provide any further comment at this time."

Did I miss where this site became a court of law?

Burgoyne was one of their leaders as well . If the players knew it would have bee out in the open well before now .

We didnt have the evidence day one to counter what were reasonably established allegations.

In this case, the hawks have released what appears to be a pretty thorough review. See what Gil's presser has to say, and when Fagan and Clarkson respond. but it looks pretty damning for those allegations to be made public.

Also Hawthorn's statement is pretty cut and dry about pursuing the allegations further, not pretending it didn't happen.
