Ratten seems like a really decent bloke. Almost forget he played for Carlton.
And now Fox is suggesting it will be Ross Lyon, so from a decent bloke to just a bloke. Lyon, Hayes and Goddard. Tough group of coaches.

Lyon finally got a job offer that isn't expecting him to jump through any hoops
I can't work out why Hawthorn are trying to convince people they're not going to be worse next year, but also saying at the same time that they're not going to try to scrape into the finals next year.
And the Hawks fans are still living the "one soldier out, one soldier in" delusion of the abortion-era Hawks.

I'm so shocked that Lyon has already had a marathon meeting and stated he's open to the coaching position at St Kilda, especially after the long chats this year with the St Kilda president about their mediocrity.
It doesn't reek of a plan to get Lyon for months at all...

I'd imagine at that point they weren't sure of Lyon's interest and/or didn't have the support of other board members. The contract I believe means they only have to pay out Ratten 6 months, so even then it was on their mind, even if not highly unusual.

Might explain why he didn’t vibe with Essendon. He already had a job lined up that he wouldn’t have to apply for and got to knife another contracted coach.
I had hoped Goddard might come to Essendon as an assistant in some capacity, but he has already said he wants to go back to St Kilda with Ross. Probably as much about learning more about coaching from that side of things as anything else. Then when the coteries sack Scott they can line up BJ.

I dont know why it's so odd to people that Lyon has no interest in applying for a job.
It is so far beneath him it's not funny.
He's as good a coach as there is.

It's not odd to me at all, it's just that I think entitlement is not a good trait in a coach for Essendon with our already entitled players. I would have liked him if he was not above applying and proving he was the right choice.
Didn’t even want to get to know us, gone back to his ex. Ew.

I don’t think it was entitlement. I mean we virtually targeted Scott and did the same thing Saints did with Lyon. We dress and hide it as much as we like.
