Far too early to call but I wonder if we've finally gotten to Geelong falling off the cliff?

It's inevitable. If the Cats didn't lose to the Pies last week, I'd say tonight was an aberration.

When the Cats changed their game plan to be more fast, run and gun with flare, it worked for them because it was the trend, but also because they had the sweet spot of senior players with fuel in the tank, a gallant leader, and some young players carrying the rest of the load. But I think such a game plan can become very taxing the moment those senior players start running out of gas, pulling up underdone, etc; with a lack of depth in youth capable of taking up the mantle in the absence of those injured/retired. Hawkins, as good as he's been for so long, just hasn't been the same, and time may be starting to get the better of him.

Throw in experiments like Bauhn, and the shocking Bowes miss, and the question as to whether or not this is an early symptom of the inevitable fall off is a legitimate question to make.

Time will tell.

You seen their next 3 weeks? Will be 3-2
Geelong wouldn’t be worried much. They were 3-4 last year after they lost to st Kilda, lost to hawthorn and got smashed by Sydney. And at that point everyone was saying they were just making up the numbers. They’ll just build into the season slowly. If they start dropping games against us in round 6, then they’ll start to worry.

DAMNING VISION ALERT

disclaimer: vision is only damning because the team lost
I’ll have a guess, David king commenting?

Afl media is such sensationalism crap 😂 they were saying the same things about them early in the year they started average, the said media then praised them later in the season for timing their run perfectly to peak for September.
In 7 weeks it’ll be wow they’re back.

Aren't they missing most of their first choice KPDs?

Stewart, Kolodjasni, Henry and SDK played in the GF, right now you've got SDK and Ratugolea back there. Massive difference in personnel.

Is it just me or has sliding doors somehow managed to get even worse this year?
I can't help but read it every Friday. Not because I think it is any good, but just to see so many stupid points but together so quickly and without meaning. The best ones are when he makes a particular point one week and then completely contradicts himself the next week because he needs to come up with 19 separate points each week. He doesn't even pay attention to the tripe he writes. It's hideous but I can't look away.

They have been running along the edge for a long while. I do wonder if last nights result is different if they have their first choice defense .
It will be interesting to see if finally winning the flag and not having Sellwood to control things may see them drop back 5 or 10%.
Time will tell I guess.

Hawkins was supposed to miss rd1.
