Sheezel is obviously an absolute screaming jet but there’s something objectively funny about him getting awarded the first Rising Star nom of the ‘no corporate sponsorship’ era
Have nab pulled all their money out of footy? No longer sponsor elite junior footy the u18 league in Victoria and also the rising star award.

Hmmm, storms and teacups. Hawks seem to have made aggressive changes to be ahead of the concessions to a new Tassie team, which seems like good planning. Plus, they built their premiership team of 2008 (I think that was the first under Clarkson) from early draft picks and a priority pick. Dont blame them for trying to ensure they properly bottom out and rebuild from there. Beats the almost 20 years of mediocrity we have had by being regularly middle of the road. Going to be a tough next year or two for them and their supporters but if you can do a proper rebuild and get 4 premierships over 20 years again, it would be terrific. Kangas and Eagles should beat them. They might beat GC in Tassie or something like that.

IMHO opinion there is an easy fix. Run a lottery for all teams under a predetermined number of wins for 1st round pick positions.

Pick 1 has rarely ever been the best player in the draft pool, it is already a lottery in terms of who is going to be the best player.

I think Hawks realised that they were going to implode in a few years time had they not made the changes they did and that would just add a few extra years to the age of players they had recently recruited so they opted for a controlled detonation of their list to speed up that process from a few years to this year.

It's called tanking.

It's called tanking.

Of course it is. Richmond tanked and ended up with 3 premierships. Melbourne tanked and ended up with a 1 premiership so far. You either have to be dysfunctional (like my club has been) for some time, or you need to orchestrate to acquire a significant pool of top end picks.

As many clubs have shown, it is pretty easy to be a mid-table side by just stacking the side with good ordinary solidly built players, but you are zero chance of winning a flag doing that.

One of the best bone healers around.

I take Jimmy's point though; it's the development coaches and program being in place that would ultimately be the difference. Should have been in place at Essendon when Truck started.

Except this time the consensus seems to be that Harley Reid is head and shoulders beyond the rest and could be a once-in-a-generation KPP, if you believe the conjecture going around.

Hollands looks really impressive unfortunately. Very light but Holds width super well and is neat with the footy and obviously him being there makes Carlton front runners when Elijah Hollands requests a trade.
