Freo have given up their first and second round draft picks this year as well as pick 13 last year for Luke Jackson.

He’s significantly worse than Andrew Phillips as a backup ruck/full forward.

That is lose your job type stuff there.

He’d be a lot better if he was allowed to be the solo ruck, he has talent to be a gun ruck but he’s never going be worth the cost playing in the role he’s currently in. Eventually they’re going to have to get rid of Darcy, which is again another dumb position to be in. Still is a massive head scratcher as to why they went so hard after him when he wasn’t a huge need. They desperately need a consistent key forward over another potentially elite ruck. At worst they should’ve acted coy in the process and allowed the price to be talked down. Remember it was only 6 months ago when everyone thought Melbourne got fleeced as most predicted freo would be a top 6 side this year. Freo could’ve potentially blown the best list build they’ve had in the clubs history off 1 decision, couple that with the horrific game plan theyre currently running. This season is pretty much a write off for them already.

Fremantle have Brisbane (in Brisbane, so the good version), Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong and Melbourne in the next 5 weeks. They could easily be 3-8 by then and then who knows what.

The wreak of us last year. The wheels fall off early and they are out of the finals race by mid year so the season gets ugly from there.
Problem is Melbourne have their pick, so a bad season doesn't even help them at the pointy end of the draft.

They'd be very unhappy with the return on their investment so far for sure, but he's also only 6 games in in a new system, with new team mates etc. We know what kind of form he's capable of. I'd be inclined to look beyond Jackson as well. That whole team is underperforming.

Did say in the dogs freo thread that he's ahead of Bont as their best player. Not to diss Bont, but English is almost the complete player. Was my 2nd choice behind ridley for our 2nd pick without much hope of getting either.
Had we split pick 1 into 3 top 10 picks, he'd have been in that list

But suspect the pies and cats go quite hard at him.
Need to focus on Jackson being more a fwd than a ruck. He's not quick around the ground, so both their rucks lumber around a bit.

Doubt pies are going to be offering another ruck a huge long term after what just happened with grundy. Draper is not good enough to be a 75% forward.

But it's also (yet more) evidence that big guys just take longer to get good, more often than not. Something some Essadun fans should keep in mind when discussing the likes of Reid, Cox, BZT etc...
