How anyone thinks Ross Lyon is a good coach I’ll never know
A fraction of bad luck on the day stopped him from being a GF winning coach. He has made it to more grand finals than the majority of coaches do.

Not wanting to play finals is just a loser mentality.

* that.
I agree. I am not going to be hugely upset if we do not but I want to see them having a decent crack to make it. We are in a spot where it is now good development to be able to win the games to get in and show some backbone . If we do not make it so be it but winning these games and losing the first week in the finals will still say more than just fading away even if it is an improved season overall.

Exactly. It's a bloody weird feeling finishing up the season with dead rubbers, and if it isn't you should probably give it a way.
I'd take that weird feeling over the way I'll feel watching another one of these.

2021 EF - Western Bulldogs 85 def Essendon 36
2019 EF - West Coast 116 def Essendon 61
2017 EF - Sydney 121 def Essendon 56
2011 EF - Carlton 149 def Essendon 87
2009 EF - Adelaide 166 def Essendon 70

Or just give it up altogether and get another interest, never feel sorry for ourselves ever again.

Had great teams at St Kilda and Freo. 4 GF never scored 70 points. Gotta be able to score more points than oppo to win.
His style is way outdated now with current rules.
On the one side you had guys like Pavlich say how professional the joint became with Lyon around. Standards and expectations sharpened up - Shape up or ship out. After a short period I felt his game style ran his sides into the ground and he was more a one trick type of guy. Those mass gang tackling frenzies and rolling scrums jading unless I guess you have a team of natural endurance freaks. Also his teams have been involved in some of the most horrendous games to watch that turn both supporters and sponsors off.

Can we at least agree that Ross Lyon is probably the worst coach to coach two different sides into grand finals over the last couple of decades?
Yes 👍

Lyon was a good coach but I dont think he is suited to the modern game, both in style and in temperament.
Also with him pivoting to say finals were never on the radar this year, then why sack Ratten within 6 months of extending his contract?

Yeah I reckon Lyonball is more easily countered by modern gameplans than it was in the past. And I think their early success was probably due to opposition coaches not really understanding how to deal with it, but with nearly a full season of vision available to opposition analysts it's been picked apart.

Channel Seven sports reporter Tom Browne will be leaving the network after more than a decade.

Channel Seven sports reporter Tom Browne will be leaving the network after more than a decade.

Browne, who joined the network in 2011, has reportedly accepted a video content producer role with MA Financial Group.

He will see out the rest of this year's AFL season before embarking on his new role.

The career change will see Browne leave Melbourne for Sydney with his wife Tara, and their two children.

The journalist also works on the Triple M Footy news podcast.

Browne was promoted to chief football reporter at Channel Seven in 2021.

The award-winning journalist has broken several news stories including Gold Coast coach Stewart Drew when he was sacked earlier this month.

Western Bulldogs' coach Luke Beveridge breaking his hand during a half-time address was among the other stories he broke.

He was thrown under the spotlight after reportedly clashing with footy journalist Marc McGowan in the changerooms in April.

Carlton had just beaten North Melbourne when Browne reportedly called McGowan a 'bogan' and an 'idiot' after McGowan took aim at Seven commentator Brian Taylor on Twitter.

Taylor had been accused of one-sided commentary during the Lions and Magpies clash on April 6 with McGowan joining in on the pile-on.

'Can't we just watch the game without BT [Brian Taylor] telling us every second minute how close Collingwood is to getting back into this,' McGowan wrote.

It is believed McGowan fired back to the name calling when he was confronted by Browne, referring to him as a 'fool'.

Browne's resignation is expected to be a big loss for Seven, with the seasoned reporter breaking some of the league's biggest stories.

Fellow Channel Seven sports reporter Mitch Cleary is a frontrunner for Browne's replacement.

In addition to his TV presenting work, Browne also pens a regular column for 7NEWS.com.au called Tom's Take.

Browne is the son of Collingwood president Jeff Browne.

He worked as a lawyer for Minton Ellison from 2006 to 2009 before beginning a career in sports journalism and signing up with Channel Seven in 2011.

Browne often speaks on health and urges people to look after themselves.

At age 32, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes but a combination of medical treatment and healthy living helped him keep it under control.

In 2022, he was briefly off-air after he was hospitalised for six days following a crippling infection.

Browne also experienced an awkward moment when Tigers star Jack Riewoldt called him out on Twitter in April, 2019.

The reporter had tweeted that Riewoldt had undergone scans for a knee injury sustained in a previous game and would likely avoid surgery.

But Riewoldt fired back, accusing the journalist of 'guessing' about his scans.

'Potentially' 'Believe' 'I don't know' Tom please start your tweet with 'I am guessing…' At least it would be true,' Riewoldt responded.

When Browne said he had 'reliable sources up his sleeve', the footballer questioned the timing of his tweet.

'Tom it couldn't have been true. You posted your so called information from a source at midday today and I didn't have a scan until 3.30pm. You've either got the ability to time travel or you guessed....' he wrote.

The article is so poorly written it's almost as if he wrote it himself. :/

Not sure that I would call them great teams (especially Freo). Saints had a lot of top end talent but I always thought that Lyon got the best out of his role players.
