I'd enjoyed making the Kings series so much, I decided to take a stab at the Penguins too, so here are the first two of a planned five.
60s Night vs the New York Rangers...which gives us the irony of a Rangers game where one team is wearing diagonal lettering...and it is not the Rangers. The Pens' original jerseys, legend has it, were lost some time after the season, making it a one-year design...while the lettering style I went with for the Rangers was also inspired by one of the few times they've strayed from the diagonal script.
For 70s Night, the Cleveland Barons seemed like a good opponent. Trouble is, they haven't existed for several decades, so the Columbus Blue Jackets step in for them. The mid-90s Robo-penguin serves as the crest, and much like the original this is based on was sky blue-heavy, this is gold-heavy. The striping pattern used for the Blue Jackets' jersey happens to have also been used by the Pens in the mid 70s, and the most notable feature of the old Barons' uniform was the Ohio sleeve number plates, which I replicate here.
