Ironic that Essendon dodged a bullet here... and have put themselves directly in front of another one.

I can't see any of the old coaches gettings gigs now. Surely cleanskins are the way forward. Sorry Ross.

It's pretty remarkable that currently, James Hird would be a less controversial appointment than Alistair Clarkson.

It's hard to be surprised/shocked by things these days. But there I was this morning reading that ABC article and I just kept shaking my head. And it got worse the more I read. I hope that the suffering and despair inflicted on these individuals may at the very least lead to some societal change. We have a long way to go.

I expect most other clubs, and I hope ours, would be immediately commencing a similar review to see if their actions stand up to scrutiny.

You're right. And this might be the start of something much broader. What if some of those fledgling coaches under Clarkson took these ideas and actions into the various other clubs that they went to?

This is a scary thought. Hawthorn was senior coach factory during Clarkson’s era

People need to dial back the hysteria and outrage.

Let's hear what Clarkson and Fagan have to say. They have a right to be heard.

We have no idea of the context in which the incidents were said to have occurred or the motivations of those involved or even if they can be proven. All we have are allegations from the ABC, an organisation which has shown of late to be quite amenable to pushing a false narrative if it suits them.

We should hold back our condemnation until all the facts are brought to light.

The fact Fagan is taking a leave of absence means he's not getting fired
It doesn't mean shit. He's likely already on annual leave. The club is just distancing themselves from him until they have a chance to investigate further. They can't fire him without knowing all the details else they risk a rather large lawsuit for improper termination.

You think people would make this shit up?

Fair dinkum

Clarkson and Fagan had the opportunity to respond in the piece. Russell Jackson has done some fantastic investigative journalism into other distressing matters such as Robbie Muir, and several allegations of grooming and child sexual abuse in sporting bodies. Obviously the matter should be further investigated as the AFL is doing, but the journalist who has brought this to light has a proven track record of writing these types of pieces and being incredibly thorough in his work.

Yep,
It doesn't look good but there are always two sides to every story. You really need both sides first before judgements can be made. Even then, it will be very hard to know if the allegations are true or fabricated without background, context and evidence. Humans have a tendency to get info wrong and the longer the time, the worse it becomes.

The AFL will investigate and no matter the outcome, this story isn't going away as the AFL don't have enough room under the rug to fit any more under and won't be believed regardless. I recon Clarko will be gone no matter the outcome.

In HR world - getting stood down pending investigation outcome = with the information at hand we have investigated and corroborated, can you please give us your final hail mary why we shouldn't fire you.

Unless you're a ratchet company that likes to scare people for no reason, and stand people down without due process - then bring them back into the fold once cleared and everyone assumes they were guilty because they were stood down, they probably end up quitting anyway because they don't want to be there despite allegations not being substantiated... which lets be honest is probably a shitload of companies so hard to say lol

Emotional me says these blokes should get pelted with tomatoes in public and fired instantly, but professional me knows that if the AFL stuff this they'll have a massive legal fight on their hands.

Doesn't look good, and i'm no apologist for Fagan or Clarkson, but this isn't the Wild West we are in here.
Innocent until proven guilty etc.
If True though, Griff is off to a rudderless club for the next 5 years.
And idiot Colon Young has shafted his client heavily.
Not very sporting of me, but I do take some pleasure from that!

No but people often get things wrong, misinterpret what was spoken and so on... Perhaps the incidents did occur in the manner alleged.

All I am saying is to get both sides of the story before rushing to judgement.
Not sure Clarko barging into people’s homes determined to break up their families can be misinterpreted all that much.
