I think the right for all of those implicated to give their version of events goes without saying. No one will be losing their jobs for the time being.

But the immediate outrage/disgust at the potential for this to have occurred is pretty understandable given the allegations are of systematic, targeted abuse perpetuated by multiple high ranking club officials who are still prominent members of the AFL community.

It's not an isolated incident of one player saying that Clarkson used a racial slur against him once (not to minimise that at all)...the depth of the allegations are massively disturbing.

Massive test for the North President. She was very active in recruiting Clarkson.

What will she do now? Does she have the leadership to walk away from Clarkson and start the whole process for North again?

She gave Clarkson too much power. She knifed their black CEO Ben Amarfio because Clarkson wanted it. She is all in.

For starters as a not for profit these ****ers shouldn't be allowed to have a massive media arm attached and paid for by themselves..

Of course they can sweep so much shit under the rug..

I’ve been thinking. This report became available to Hawthorn two weeks ago. Hawthorn, North and Brisbane are all owned by the AFL. Surely Hawthorn would have been under obligation to report this to the AFL at least a week ago? Yet it gets broken by the media, AFL call a reactive presser, Fagan stands down but his club maintain he hasn’t been consulted on the issue, and Clarko is still silent.
This seems poorly handled. Has Hawthorn thrown everyone under the bus or have the AFL sat on it for a week hoping it goes away?

People need to dial back the hysteria and outrage.

Let's hear what Clarkson and Fagan have to say. They have a right to be heard.

We have no idea of the context in which the incidents were said to have occurred or the motivations of those involved or even if they can be proven. All we have are allegations from the ABC, an organisation which has shown of late to be quite amenable to pushing a false narrative if it suits them.

We should hold back our condemnation until all the facts are brought to light.
While I agree that the ABC is no longer the bastion of impartiality it once may have been, the report here relates to a review Hawthorn initiated as a response to Cyril Rioli's claims he and his wife were subject to racist treatment during his time at Hawthorn.

After seeing the findings of that review, the ABC journalist in question has since asked questions of the indigenous players and their famiies, but it all came out as a result of the independent inquiry/review that Hawthorn asked for.

I think most people are being careful to add the necessary "if trues" and "allegeds" when talking about this but, **** me, I can understand peope going a little off-tap.

These are claims of outrageous activity.

We all know stories of benign and not-so benign paternalism, but this is whole other level.

This is the work of a respected journalist, not a PR piece from AFL HQ or some Murdoch Pravda masthead.

It takes some incredible cognitive contortion act to think of a context that makes this anything less than reprehensible. Aliens?

I've seen the the word 'proof' come up a couple of time. They don't need proof, this isn't a court of law. All the investigation needs to establish is that the allegations are likely to be substantively true. Unless the investigation shows, and you would have to think this unlikely, that some or all of the people who have testified are not credible witnesses or that somehow collusion was involved, then Fagan and Clarkson + this Burt guy in particular are going to get the book thrown at them and rightly so (I.E. Deregistered not just sacked. Life memberships revoked etc.)

AFL is gonna wait this out. We'll all barely give a s**t in a month. Just in time for Clarke to reappear in the white and blue
Except this is not a blow-over news story, it's got far too much weight and gravitas behind it, and the allegations are too shocking. When you consider the people that may never work in the AFL again, this might be the biggest story in the last 30/40 years, possibly as big as the Essendon doping scandal.
