Genuine shot at our first flag wasted imo given how beatable everyone is and how our side was rising and top 4/top 2 was right there.

I’ve tried to explain that’s the reason I honestly don’t give a stuff about barracking for sides to lose so we can finish 8th. Our year is gone.
Finals experience will be invaluable if we make a run next year. So many of ours still have no finals experience and we may lose more if Walters hangs up the boots. We need to scrape in, if only for that.

Nah
Make no mistake making finals would be massively beneficial for this group .

Go back through last 20 + years and show me a side that’s come from no where to win the flag without some semblance of finals Exposure the previous.

It just does not happen ,period.

Said before it’s what cost us so bad in 2006.

Clubs just can’t “flick the switch” and go from virtually no or minimal finals experience to premiers.

Plus and especially this year , get to finals and anything can happen -
It s as open as it’s ever been this year.
Now do I think we’re genuine chance of make it ,no but it’d still be an exciting time to be involved in for both club and supporters

GWS must win v Bulldogs next week. Sunday is going to be big
cats have joined 18 other clubs that have lost the week after they play freo 🤣(only Swans and hawks bucked that trend, doggies also but they had a bye to help them recover)

Will be tough for GWS to buck that trend; we must be doing something right for that to be happening

When was the last team to win a flag after missing finals the previous 2 years?

It basically rules us out of winning one next year if we dont make it...
Bingo .

Yea I’ve harped on about but it’s for this exact reason why it’d be so infuriating if we miss , especially from where weve been positioned.

Missing this year almost consigns 2025 ito yet just ANOTHER year of waiting longer in gaining experience

Geelong losing to Saints shows how pathetic we were last week and those selections were an extra hindrance.

It could be coach ending for Jlo. Just awful.

Today we were much better, but yet Jlo couldn’t do anything to stop Hogan( like didn’t try a thing), Banners debacle and didn’t put a hard tag on Daniels.

Teams show up against us because we have a reputation of being a bit soft, we need to change that by not being soft.
Starts in the box and selection integrity.

Darcy too fat and unfit to play footy atm.

Banners not up to it.

Fyfe is past it. Just past it.

Jlo plays his favourites and we got to get someone who puts everyone on an even playing field and have them get a game on form. Players need to be challenged like RTB did. How come Darcy can show up every year 120 kegs plus.

Maybe our mistake was not having a coach sacking level of slump in the middle of the season. Sydney, Giants, Port, and Geelong all had horror periods earlier on in the season and have had the time to recover and find form again where it mattered.

We've lost in consecutive weeks twice this year - and both times we pat ourselves on the back because the losses were close. Gives the illusion that little needs to change.

At the same time it's infuriating that we've been in every single game right up until the final minutes for the past nine weeks yet teams that were getting dealt consecutive losses of 30+ points during that time have well and truly jumped us.

Insane to think we’d currently be in a better position if just one of the close results went our way - but the other 5 of our heart breaking losses this year were 50+ annihilations.

How bleak can you get

God it's even worse when you put it like that, cos there's probably some team in the top 8 that fits that bill exactly.

We're clearly a good enough team to compete with anyone.

Who cares? if you lose every game by 1 point you are still a shit team.

The players and the club have probably been thinking internally all year they will play finals , now circling the drain. I suspect we will start having trouble keeping the core group together if we keep stinking it up. i.e. the likes of Brayshaw become a flight risk.

Yep it’s feeling like the Connolly/Harvey era again. Talented side but oh so flaky. IIRC we lost 4 (maybe even 5) games in a row after leading at 3QT. Not just 5 for the season like this year.

I recall Richmond under Hardwick in the early years lost a lot of close games they should have won.

Getting better under pressure and tight games will no doubt be the focus this pre-season.

5th best % in the comp and if we beat Port next week I imagine it will be 4th best % as they are only 0.5% ahead of us

St Kilda have beaten Essendon and Geelong the week after or before those 2 sides beat us.

It’s so frustrating because it wasn’t a concern for us before. We used to finish games pretty well in the last couple years. Even last year we seemed to have a lot more games where we either won close or were able to break away when it was close in the final quarter.

I think those 2 nailbiter games in Adelaide we lost probably just put that self doubt in.

We were a Logan McDonald straight kick from being 1 draw and 7 losses in games decided by 13 points or less.
