Oppo Camp Non Giants AFL discussion

Alot of Chad Warner discussion. Someone on main board claims Peter Sumich says Freo is paying for Chad's stay at Perth Crown casino this week. Surely that is not true.
Also 3 way trades being suggested involving Hsrley Reid going to a Melbourne club.
I wonder if we can somehow benefit from these things ( I don't know how, just putting it out there).

Seems Dusty almost became a Giant from 2014?

Martin and his long-time manager, Ralph Carr, made no secret of touring the Western Sydney-based GWS Giants facilities at the end of the ‘13 season, with Richmond resigned to the fact its burgeoning superstar wanted to “pursue other opportunities”.

GWS reportedly tabled a five-year deal worth around $700,000 per season to a then-22-year-old Martin — a whopping sum in that economy.

He was prepared to make the career-altering move.

However, as quickly as his Punt Road departure seemed imminent, the Giants’ deal was mysteriously wiped off the table.

“I’ve got no idea (who pulled it),” Carr said years later in 2020.

Does anybody know why it was pulled?
Perhaps Franklin indicated he wanted to come but surely we could have afforded both back them?
Or perhaps our own mids where considered better long term prospects.

It's been discussed here a bit.
It was the AFL panicking and vetoing the deal as the wave of VIC anti-COLA hysteria was peaking.
The club wanted him, but the VIC clubs were already p*ssed because of all our draft concessions.

The concessions they gave us, which where too generous , Cola should have been reduced to 5%.
Will be interesting to see what Tasmania get as concessions, as I said on main board it should be easy to do.
Have an expansion draft , all 18 clubs lose some players, therefore nobody needs compensation picks ( apart from say 4 to 6 signings they can make of players protected in the expansion draft).

Legend has it the AFL thought it was too big a risk off field, they thought he was trouble.

Good for us that teams like North exist, to show that even when we are bad, there are teams that are much worse than us!! At least even we at our worst won’t give up a 54 point lead, and lose by 1 point due to a heart breaking miss in the final seconds!

….to highlight the mandate from AFL House that there are certain (Vic) clubs that get unparalleled assistance from the umpires on the ground, and there are other clubs that do not, and will not, ever receive such bounties.

I know it’s churlish but serves him right! I know Butters was frustrated but what would possess him to do an open handed slap?

Butters was cited for an open-hand slap on GWS midfielder Tom Green during the Power’s loss on Sunday.

The incident was graded as intentional, because it was off the ball, with low impact and high contact resulting in a one-match ban.
