I get that, but Swans have employed him after all this and they would've grilled him as part of hiring process. I consider that club and admin as pretty sound decision makers both on and off field.

Longmire praising him in 2021 - Longmire lauds “wonderful” and “fantastic” Pyke in coaching credentials boost

Pyke again apologizing for Adelaide debacle - ‘We got it wrong’: Ex-Crows coach Don Pyke says sorry for camp after more players speak out

Pyke definitely misjudged what happened in that camp and he had the power to stop it - but he didn't. I am not sure what's considered the acceptable penance period for him to be re-considered for any role or how long he needs to be "away" to be deemed as acceptable timeframe. I am not even sure what he needs to do to show he's reflected on it and wanting to right the wrongs. There is no perfect template out there in terms of process - say a punishment, fine, community service, jail time etc.

You can't just ostracize a person just because he was accomplice to one big mistake in their life time.

Eddie Bett's and Josh Jenkins' revelations have only come to light in the last couple of months - its far too soon from a PR perspective. Again, as I said above he's note the only person who has responsibility, but I just can't see how he could be a senior coach any time soon. What was done was such a breach of the basic duty of care owed to players, and I can't trust a head coach who either actively participated in that, or let others at the club drive that direction.

I'm not sure he would have got an assistants job if the full story of the camp had come out 2 years ago as opposed to now.

Pyke's timer from heartfelt apology taking full responsibility and showing regret and remorse etc to the point of redemption is ticking away ... Hird's will start once he gives his own heartfelt apology, takes full responsibility and shows regret and remorse** for what happened on his own watch...

** notes that apologising for getting caught, mouthing full responsibility out of one side of the mouth while claiming nothing happened or it was someone else out of the other, and being really sad that things have turned out this way for him don't count...

That is what gets me. Pyke is not right to coach an AFL club, but Heard is?

Would have him 2ic to Fagan in a flash.

this is where the multiple options paralysis my decision making :p thought i liked the single colour but that darker top panel looks sweet.

tbh both look awesome, and that golden lion on the blue is :kissingheart::kissingheart::kissingheart::handok::handok:
I felt there was an element missing and the navy blue above the chevron makes it look complete. I'd definitely buy one if that was an official guernsey. Felt like we needed a blue clash for years.

He's got a job as the main assistant coach at a premiership favourite.

God, if that's ostracism sign me up.

I think you'll find that anyone who considers Pyke not appropriate to coach an AFL club would DEFINITELY consider Hird not appropriate. In fact the number of people who consider that Hird should never coach again is way higher than anyone with any animosity to Pyke's appointment.

Tom's post was arguing for Don to be excluded from coaching line based on what went down in Adelaide. There was also a comment that if Sydney knew about the extent of the event, Don won't have that job right now. Ostracism was in reference to that line of argument, not about his current job.

Sydney might have known about what went down - what football clubs will tolerate when the details are not known is totally different to what would publicly be tolerated if the full details had got out.

It isn't ostracism to consider someone not fit to hold a very highly paid, senior role, because they presided over a disgraceful episode and then participated in a cover up in the aftermath. Obviously, I don't think it is right for Hird to be an assistant coach as he was this year let alone a senior coach again either.

That's funny but on the broader subject of getting shitfaced, they are adults and it's their prerogative to drink excessively if that is what they choose to do.... IMO.

I've had my share of big nights back in my 20's. Nothing worse than waking up with hangover and a feeling of dread about how much of an arse you made of yourself the night before.

Oh wait, yes there is. Having some tabloid photographer document it & have all the footy shows splash it all over TV.

Happy R U OK day everyone.

Those guys have attempted to numb their disappointment by seeking the solace of alcohol.

Whilst not a course of action that is a good idea, I would be a hypocrite to condemn them for something that I think a large proportion of us , me included have engaged in at some point in life.

Let ye who is without stupid drunken behavior cast the first stone

Which every team does.

Except the team that wins the premiership......

They magnify their sense of achievement & accomplishment by seeking the affirmation of alcohol??

Maybe.

Maybe not.

Alcohol is a depressant.

It would depend largely on the individual as to whether they want to come down from the high of a win or numb the pain of a loss

Ironical isn't it?

If you are on an absolute high from something like winning a Premiership, the massive consumption of alcohol would surely dampen rather than enhance the experience

Especially if one has to deal with the inevitable "morning after"

Does it work the same way for everyone though?

I have a family member who is autistic, pretty sure they have to take a medical version of speed to calm down each night & go to sleep. Something about how their melatonin levels behave differently or something like that. I might be wrong.
