I think it’s sometimes easier to kick goals in losing teams when you’re the only forward. Often doesn’t translate to going to the next level when you’re required to do more

Look at Harry McKay

I reckon with McKay it's more that he's struggling with having to do less with Curnow there. I do get what you're saying though.

Regardless, surely it's been a while since a forward in a team as bad as North has kicked 70+ goals. I remember when we were poor, Josh Green won our goal kicking a couple of times with totals in the 20-30s.

Yer 2nd rounder a selection between circa 25-30 is much of a muchness IMO, if it was a 1st rounder it would be more of a discussion say pick 6-7 instead of 10.
My point exactly.

I really can't stand the Dogs.

A team supposedly full of "stars" that I always gets talked up but regularly turns to water when the pressure is ramped up on them.

Dogs managing to get their first win in forever at GHMBA good for us. Turns those Geelong picks into 26 + 45 assuming Crows get over Eagles. Then just need Giants to beat Blues tomorrow and push the Dogs out of finals for maximum laughs.

Honestly, does it really that much difference?

Not worth cheering for the Throwdogs for me

This year's draft it does. It is reported that as few as 50 picks will be executed by the clubs. Therefore a pick in the mid 20's becomes quite valuable in trading/drafting terms. Certainly pick in the mid 20's will have greater value than a pick in the late 20's.

Off the top of my head Fev and Brownie both had massive years when their teams sucked. Hell, we only won six games in a year where BOTH Brown and Bradshaw kicked 70+.

Looking up Fev, he kicked 84 when they only got three wins.

If you've got a good enough player in a crap team the ball just keeps going to them and they get their chances. When we were really bad in recent years we didn't ever have that player.

From memory, Brown and Fevola had some of their better goal kicking tallies in years where their team made finals though (post 2004 in Brown's case). I feel like good forwards stay good forwards even as their team gets better.

Saints have a couple of absolute young superstars in NWM and Owens. Those two in the midfield with Max King up front and Philipou who could be anything as well. Saints have a young nucleus there to take them places in the near future. Best assembly of talent since the Riewoldt, Hayes and Goddard days.
