North a chance for the 8?

Good win by the roos, although I'm still not sure they are a real top 8 team as yet. They have the young kids coming through that should see them pushing for the 8 in 2012 though.
Have a feeling the saints may grab the 8th position, they have a good run after the geelong game (which includes playing the roos)

You didn't comprehensively outplay us in the last. You kicked straight and we kicked badly. You kicked 7 straight and we kicked 2.8.

Fair play, good kicking is good footy etc, but to suggest you comprehensively outplayed us when we had three more scoring shots than you is plain wrong.

Anyway, we meet again in Rd22. Will be an interesting game.

I have been to as many North as Carlton games this year and I have been a member multiple years (not this year) at North, so I don't really think I have a bias against them, however...

North were better against Richmond for a quarter, both teams were actually pretty pathetic after quarter time, but Richmond were the less pathetic of the two. the turnovers under no pressure were amazing. Richmond absolutely were the better football team that day and North won, you could have considered it highway robbery to have gotten away with playing that badly.

Now North is playing many times better now than they were at that stage and they really are an outside chance of finals, but against the better teams they still have to lift a couple more levels or they will go the same way they did against Geelong/Collingwood.

I hope they do make it, but I don't think they will.

Well Essendon really doesn't want their top 8 spot. IMO the top 7 is settled, and the Bombers will drop out so there is 1 spot left. Either Norths or Saints, I'll pick the Saints to have 1 more game in September before they start their time in the bottom 4.

North and the Saints play twice in the second half of the season, will come down to who takes those wins imo

I can't see it. Let's be honest, they've beaten nobody really. Gold Coast, Port, Adelaide, Melbourne....hardly world beating form. In saying that, if they got on a run who knows.

Another solid year of getting games into their kids will do them a world of good and possibly a tilt at the finals next year.

Games against the sides like the Dogs, Saints and Essendon will be the decider if they play finals.

I lol'd when I saw this. A win against Gold Coast and finals talk is on the cards, please. Beat some good sides then we'll talk

Losing those 4 games in which we were in winning positions against west coast, richmond, brisbane and sydney will cost us finals. Maybe if we won 1 or 2 of them it would've helped.

To be honest, whilst making finals would be a good experience for our youngsters we would be just making up the numbers. Next year will be a breakout year for the club.

These 2 games, Bombers and Bulldogs will be the deciding factor if we've turned the proverbial corner.

Haven't beaten anyone of note yet and therefore position on ladder is apt,

Post is from a Carlton supporter.

Since when did you have to beat good teams to make the finals? Dogs made an art form of beating nobody of note and making the top 4.

To be honest I don't really care whether we make the 8 or not this year.

What i care about is seeing McIntosh make his way back into our team in 4 weeks time after a couple of games in the VFL and Grima in a few weeks.

Hopefully if we can escape injuries to our young midfield group for a change, the level of football we will be playing towards the end of the season will be an indication of our chances next year.

I'm not going to get involved in crystal balling because it's pretty pointless really regardless of which way you choose to look at it.

2012 we will make the top 8 and deserve to be there not just scrape in :thumbsu:

However i do believe we can beat Bombers next week, and even the Saints and Dogs who are playing bad footy lately.

The op is saying we are a chance because we are one and a half games out of the 8. No one has said "we will make finals" or "we have beaten the top sides". So get off your high horse mate. Quite frankly while it would be nice to make finals we would only be making up the numbers we can't compete with sides like the cats and the pies, i don't mind waiting another twelve months :thumbsu:

We're probably a chance, and could have been even more so if we'd have won those close ones.

Could have, should have etc. I'm not bothered. I did expect to make the 8 this year and now it looks unlikely. Half expect it with a young team, fluctuations.

Really though, I don't care if we finish 7/8/9/10th, whatever, I'm just waiting for the day that put teams we should beat away consistently and match it with the top sides. Not really fussed on the final 8 either way until we're worthy contenders and not just making up the numbers, which we would be if we made it this year.

Not going to dwell on the close games we've lost, it's in the past, nothing can be done about it. We're not the only team to have lost close games.

Looking forward though, we're playing well, some best 22 players still to come in over the coming weeks, average winning margin of 51 points and % around 100 (both of which has not been the case for years), with a decent run home. Signs are encouraging.

Dunstall and Frawley on MMM just went through the run home for teams 8th (Dons) to 12th (Roos). They have the Roos finishing in 8th.
