Re: North Central Football League

Whistle Blower/Patty, will the Burn be looking at a few more recruits to cover their losses or is this about as much we'll expect from them?

Patty, I believe you said something earlier about Ricky Joyce from Benalla pulling on the Saveloys guernsey. Will this eventuate?
Was told that there may have been a couple from Melbourne in the pipeline that have a connection to a Holt somewhere along the line. Hadnt heard anything about Joyce though. Hopefully Gash and Barnes will cover the holes left by Connors and Hutton but obviously need to get a few more on board to get back to anywhere near their 2004 form.

Not sure about Shevlin. Had heard he wasnt in the best shape, and perhaps the powers that be didnt want to compromise a fairly youthful, fit side to play him.

Re: North Central Football League

Just going to keep quiet about this for the moment Smasher. I can however let you in on a little secret and tell you that Boort have secured a player from Ballarat way (Central Highlands) who has pace to burn and will no doubt excite the crowds for the upcoming year. He will remain nameless until his transfer is on the NCFL website.....
I assume your talking bout the dual hepburn premiership player who signed up on the weekend.

Re: North Central Football League

I hear big Tarek has signed back at Boort this year, he owes the club for walking out last year and is keen to redeem himself!! big pick up!!!

Obviously smasher it is only here say all I'm asking is whether anyone had any factual answers mate.If you go through every thread the vast majority is what has been bandied around the traps so instead of stating such and such i am asking a question for clarification:thumbsu:

Re: North Central Football League

Shevlin was considering coming back to the Burn and would have been gratefully accepted. He decided to fullfill an ambition to play at least one year at Newbridge which is where he played juniors and also his father played their. Has a lot of mates there which tipped him bridgewaters way for this year.

As for not being wanted by the other clubs. FICTION!

he was very much wanted at Barnawartha as his 70 goals and his 100 odd the year before made him an important part of the side.

When family and job commitments forced him back to central vic there were massive attempts financially to keep him up there!

But he's not getting any smaller though.:D but keep an ear out for Loddon Valley results as he will prove the weight isn't an issue.

Re: North Central Football League

As far as other Sav news goes,

Ricky Joyce was back training with Benalla but is now back in Bendigo and i'm confident in saying that he will be staying at Benalla. Unless (as previously stated) his cousin Ricky Symes doesn't recover from a knee injury in which case Ricky might decide to go else where.

Other than Barnes and Gash i have heard the Burn have signed 2 melbourne based palyers. Both stepping down from a better standard of football and playing key positions (CHF. On-baller)

The story so far. Lost on baller and full forward.

Picked up. CHB, CHF, 2 x On-ballers, Ruckman

with a FB in current negotiations.

If they can secure the FB then i think they will close the book and start working on the progressive locals. They are the key.

Re: North Central Football League

Ex Berri-Culgoa boy, Troy Ferrier is signed to Boort from all reports. It seems like it maybe another case of Boort throwing money at average footballers. He never starred in the Mallee, so can't really see him lighting up the NCFL.
He looked good in the Central Highlands as he was playing in a top team in Hepburn but that's as far as it goes.

Ablett, what do you think of this? Is he really worth the supposed coin he has been offered?

Thanks for the clarification Patty. If anything it is always fantastic for a club to get a junior back to play some senior footy for them especially if they are in the area:)

Doesn't matter what he is worth or what he has been offered. He is a good player and will be handy for Boort. People have knocked Boort for losing players so its tough to knock them for now gaining players as well. Hopefully these initial signings will see a few more jump on board.

Re: North Central Football League

Ferrier is a great bloke who will be able to handle himself pretty well in the NCFL. He actually knocked back Boort's first offer, he said it was too much, and eventually signed for less.

Troy was one of the best 'under-age' senior players in the Mallee when I saw Berri-Culgoa play. Had good skills and football nous, caused plenty of trouble in games I saw, and looked like he was capable of being a very good player in the future. Interesting to see how his year goes. Has he returned to the area work-wise or is he travelling? I know he tried to go to Birchip a few times.

Smasher i have also read your comments on CHFL thread in relation to Ferrier. When i have seen him play (finals this year and last in CHFL) he was one of Hepburns better players. Again im not sure what game you have been watching and where you get your thoughts. He was a premiership player in the mallee for Berri Culgoa and also represented the league i think.

Re: North Central Football League

I will have to agree with King on this one Smash, you were bagging boort for losing players and now you are bagging Boort for picking up an extremely good player for little cash.....
What do Boort have to do to impress the likes of you Smash?

On another note, What is Gash like as a player from Hay?? heading to the Savs...

Went and watched him play for the Bendigo Bombers this year as we have been chasing him for a while and from what i've seen he is a hard running on baller who has good skills. He is very stocky (reminded me of Dean solymon in the bombers jumper).

Hard at the pill too which will make he and Wizzard Turnbull a tough pair to match. Expect him to finish top 3 club BnF

So Ablett how do you know what the club is paying him?
Can you tell me if any of the blokes in the side know the exact amount you earn, or what Nelson will be earning or what Lance was on last year? I bet not!

I'm not bagging Boort in regards to recruiting, just think there are alot of better players out there that would benefit the Boort side more.

It does matter what he is worth, as he could be overpaid for the value he is giving to the team. I doubt the farmer over the road who might donate the odd dollar or two to the club would be happy to find his money is being wasted on some half-ass footballer being paid good money. (Note - This is not in regards to Ferrier, just in general)

Simple explanation smasher...

EVERY footballer is overpaid!

country football would be much better if everyone played for the love of the game and the loyalty of their club.

But unfortunately it doesn't happen. Hence the need to pay these type of players.

And as i've said before, The club wouldn't be paying him anything more than what they want to.

A players value must not be narrow mindedly judged on their playing ability or past! You'd rather spend $250 on a player worth $150 when you know he is going to be putting more than $100 back into the club each weekend on top of being a good clubman.

Plus there is always better players playing for less out there but that doesn't mean they'll play for boort (or anyone else for that matter).

I'm sure if Boort had a lean year last year and were no chance this year that they would use their money wisely and save for the big years, and now that they have seen last years improvement they probably want to capitilise on the buzz around the town by having a crack this year. And if paying a few players a bit more than they would normally just to get them over the line is what it takes then so be it.

It's all relative!

In saying that, i've never been a money man... But cant get dirty on those who are paid. Worth it or not! THAT'S FOOTY!

1. So Ablett how do you know what the club is paying him?

1. I know what the club is paying him because i got him there....

2. I dont think any club would know what others are getting paid Smasher including yours, whoever you follow..... Dunno what you meant by that statement. Boort do not dish out as much as others, I'm not getting into an argument about money on this site because no one gets anywhere...

3. Who do you think we should be recruiting?

Re: North Central Football League

There is ALWAYS a player that would benefit a side more than another player...because there are so many different styles/qualities of players, while some have similarities, they are never the same...

how Exactly... would you define a player that would "benefit the club more"? (discarding that if a club gets a FB and needs a FF, then the FF would benefit the club more..)

Realistically, it can't be done, because every player is Unique...

Boort are putting an effort into covering the losses over the summer, and making a step towards improving themselves, and good on them, thats what the Preseason scouting/trading is all about.

Looks like W'burn have snagged a young ruckman / fwd from the CMFL. Was a rookie of the year nomination. Not sure if he's the ruckman you have referred to?

Re: North Central Football League

1. I know what the club is paying him because i got him there....;) Hmmmm...ok ;)

2. I dont think any club would know what others are getting paid Smasher including yours, whoever you follow..... Dunno what you meant by that statement. Boort do not dish out as much as others, I'm not getting into an argument about money on this site because no one gets anywhere...Of the last 10 years, Boort would be in the Top 3/4 Big Spenders of the league and all for what? 2 finals appearances?

3. Who do you think we should be recruiting? Not a flashy, sheepdog anyway! There are a heap of young kids in that side that handle that well enough. Need someone to cover the loss of Lance, so a strong centreman to dish it out to the runners would be my main priority[/quote]
