JHF has apparently said he wants to be the number 1 pick in the 2021 draft, I doubt North want to do anything to rock the boat.

Bidding 1 for JUH achieved absolutely nothing at all for The Crows in hindsight..

Reckon you are reading way too much into this points system.
Crows bid on JUH as they knew Dogs were into Rowe (I'm not sure why either team was), and bid so they had to use picks and the crows were in front of them.

I think people are reading too much into the impact not going pick 1 has on a player...it doesn't seem to have hurt Thilthorpe.

When did I laugh at North supporters dismissing Kossie? I said it was funny that the North death-riding thread went to sh*t last year compared to where it started. Also there is no evidence yet that Powell would make our best 22 ahead of guys like Jordon and Sparrow who are competing for spots. Maybe that will change - the point is just that it’s funny that the North board made a death riding thread about a player who kicked 40 goals in a flag year for us one year later, and is already one of the best small forwards in the league

Powell will be a jet. Going to be a fine player. Probably not ahead Jordan or Sparrow yet. Not far off. Had as much upside as Jordan.

Difference is Thilthorpe is a home state product who doesn't have a potential go home factor in him unlike JHF, which I am pretty sure you know this already, and have an hidden agenda in this (trying to saw seeds of doubt into Horne-Francis's mind as a North player)

To be fair, I would be probably be in the same mindset if I was in your position, but I think you need to drop the charade and pretend you have North and Horne-Francis's best interests at heart here:)

Isn't the point of a death ride thread to hope a team finishes low? I remember a lot of posters fearing finals etc.

How many time does the Rowe stuff have to be explained as bollocks? The Dogs would never have had a pick near where you took Rowe regardless of whether the bid came at 1,2 or 3.

What I find fascinating is whether the Roos will do the competition a solid and bid on Daicos/potentially Darcy knowing that both Pies and Dogs will match but to charge them the maximum value.

Or will they know they aren't getting either of them and just pick JHF. The ultimate outcome is the same, but the first option is better for the rest of the competition.

The answer is no, no we wont.

Plenty of teams didn't do us a solid when we had mid first rounders, so I see no requirement for us to do the same.

As part of the rest of the competition, it benefits North as well though.

It doesn't help North in its bid to retain JHF long term if they don't draft him originally with pick 1, which is a point many neutral observers are missing. The kid has stared he wants to be the number 1 pick in the draft, why run the risk of trying to put him offside in a bid to screw the Pies and or Dogs over ??

IMO clubs should just do what they’d do if the players weren’t F/S or academy players. Bid on them exactly where you rank them on your draft board. Would be wrong for North to bid on them at 1 if they didn’t have them there, and would be equally wrong for them not to do so if they do rate them higher than JHF. But at the end of the day no one else will know. It’s bizarre that Tom Greene slipped to 10 in 2019 and I find it difficult to believe that Sydney, Adelaide and Fremantle rated him lower at the time than the players they took (and Carlton rated him lower than Liam Henry) while knowing that GWS would have matched any bid for him after pick 4.

Surely you're taking the piss? He's going to pack his bags in a few years because North didnt officially take him as pick 1 just because he wanted it?

Probably not, but why run the risk of putting him offside in the first place, especially as they cannot access to Daicos or Darcy anyway?

The decision should have nothing to do with what the kid wants, he has no say in the matter. What kind of flog is going to be put offside by something so trivial anyway?

I'd question the maturity and character of anyone who cracked the sads because they weren't taken as pick 1. But I guess in a zero sum game where only one club can win the flag each year, anything that makes another club more likely makes it harder for your own chances.

This.

To make it perfectly clear, lets try and ground this in reality. There's multiple top end father sons in both years likely to effect things.

You can bookmark this for review next year, but it's likely the offer ends up being something like:

#1, #24

for

#6, #5, #20
5 & 6 for 1 alone sounds like a no brainer for North to accept. You're overestimating the capabilities of one player.

Bollocks. JHF appears to be a generational player/talent..

Absolutely no doubt players taken at that range will not come close to the impact and ability of Horne-Francis, they would have been fools to take that deal.

I can see Adelaide finishing bottom 3 next year. Three wins v Geelong, St Kilda and Melbourne this year which I’m not sure they’ll replicate, and I think North and GC will improve more than they will. Can see Hawthorn going both up and down.

I don’t think North really came out if that deal well regardless.
We basically downgraded our F2 for a current 3rd. We could have been paid less, but it is such a small-fry trade that who really cares? How we come out of the trade long term will be determined by whether or not CCJ turns out to be any good. The four year contract is much bigger investment than the trade price.

Why is this back on North?

Aren't Adelaide and Richmond then also overvaluing the capabilities of one player by throwing out these offers?

Could it be club recruiters know something BF doesn't about JHF?

It looks like a pretty big downgrade, it’s much more difficult to get a pick at the start of the second round than it is to get pick 47, but I guess that pick will improve after the F/S matching. None of my business either way but I think Richmond did extremely well out of the deal

Adelaide were putting a premium on him being a SA player. Very odd behaviour from Richmond though, I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to get pick 1 and then on trade it to Adelaide for the deal they offered.
