It's actually a little confusing, it says her contract expires in 2024, but she's signed for 2025, the same for Bresnehan, Shierlaw, Martin and Emma King.

I haven't heard anything official confirming their re-signings, but I have heard/read a few things where it was mentioned they will be playing for us again in 2025.

So dominant were our girls last season that in 1150 minutes of football we were behind for only 67 minutes, and 35 of those minutes were against Richmond in the wet down at Launceston. We were in front 87.75% of the season, behind for only 5.84% and scores were level for 6.42%.

As for North against the other two top teams, Brisbane and Adelaide:
  • Brisbane - North spent 95.4% of game time in front, 3.6% level and 1% behind
  • Adelaide - North spent 76.95% of game time in front, 8.1% level and 14.95% behind.

Brisbane spent 2 whole games behind us. How can that be 1%?

The scored the first point of the GF, it was actually a rushed behind and led for a total of 1 minute and 41 seconds. At that was it for the two games against our North girls.

So on account of being behind against us for the best part of 2 whole games, that accounts for well over 10% of their season so they can't have been behind for only 1% of their season.

The stats relate to the two games both teams played against North Melbourne. Sorry, I'll edit so it's a little easier to understand.

Listened to the Jaz Ferguson interview on hashtag kangaroos and loved it - does not waste time on false modesty about how good the team was and very determined to back up next season.

She has every right to be a little "peeved" that none of our defenders made the All-Australian Team, the difference between our defense and the next best was astronomical.

Also, I still think our girls would have beaten the All-Australian team, especially if Garner, Riddell and O'Loughlin chose to play for us instead of the AA Team. :)

I re-watched the whole AFLW GF including the presentation. Has there ever been a better celebrator than Erika O’Shea? She, literally, assaulted Crocker with her exuberance. The overall fillip to the club these women have generated cannot be overstated. Now, it’s up to the men to start delivering. They’ve been shown the way. The sight of Sarah Wright just responding to last season’s issues in such an emphatic manner is pretty unprecedented. Come on Nostradamus, give her a well earned shoutout. You know she deserves it. Garner was just a metronome. Alice was lethal. Wall was a hurricane. Emma King did everything a tall player needs to do. Tripodi, Gatt, Ash and Craven - just stupendous. To top it off, a captain who takes the team by the scruff of the neck and inspires. Smith, the embodiment of a team player. Bresnihan - heart and soul, never say die. That’s not even mentioning a host of rock solid performers, who all played their roles in the most unselfish manner possible. Truly, a monumental season. 👍

The 'loss' that galvanised rampant Roos ahead of Grand Final glory

The 'loss' that galvanised rampant Roos ahead of Grand Final glory

North Melbourne pulled off an undefeated season before clinching the 2024 NAB AFLW premiership, but there were plenty of tough lessons along the way

NORTH Melbourne didn't drop a game all season in 2024, but there was one moment in particular the Kangaroos considered to be a loss.

As the 2024 AFLW season wore on, concerns grew that the Roos hadn't yet had the loss they needed to have to work out deficiencies in their system and game plan.

The only blemish of the season had come in week two, with the 2023 runners up splitting the points with Geelong after playing out a draw.

While it wasn't a loss on paper, the Geelong game served as a wake-up call for the team widely tipped to go far in 2024.

"We didn't come out of [the Geelong game] thinking it was a win, we felt it more as a loss," midfielder Mia King told AFL.com.au after the final siren of November's Grand Final victory.

"We took a lot of learnings out of that game. But I think there was a lot of outside noise about us not having learnt what it feels like to lose this season. But ultimately I think we learned what it's like to lose at the end of the Grand Final last season."

That loss burned throughout the off-season, with the entire playing group committing to work hard during the months of downtime in order to come back and genuinely contend in 2024.

"We always knew we had to get fitter and stronger. Brisbane has a great athletic ability, so I think that in our pre-season and season we just got to work," King said.

"Every single girl came back ahead of the season in the fittest shape possible. I think that holds you up really well to manage your training load and get in really good quality sessions. I think that helped enormously to our success.

"In terms of mental strength, ultimately, until you fail once you can't really get that resolve. So yeah, we've been building, and it just feels pretty cool to be able to say that we've won a premiership now."
