No. No. ****ing No.

Don’t do this shit. She gets the captaincy because she is the best player in the game and she deserves it.

This bullshit about the captaincy being a consolation prize is ridiculous, it’s even worse that it’s coming from a North supporter.
Calm down. You've got a big week ahead. Save the agitation for Saturday.

I said something similar couple years and you gave me a similar response lol.

It makes sense that people are gonna make that connection because there's no other logical explanation as why she hasn't won a AFLW B'n'F yet. The reality is she should have multiple but she's not even getting close to winning one!
To be honest, it was even more apparent the last time Jas was named AA captain because Jas wasn't a team captain and sitting alongside her in the AA team was her actual team captain who also happened to be the best captain in the league.

I also don't think you can reach for conspiracy theories amongst the umpires without also concluding that there might just be some orchestrated shenanigans amongst the AA selection panel, which by definition, is set up to achieve negotiated outcomes.

Does it seem a bit obvious that the AA selectors know the umpires votes ahead of time so they give Jas AA captaincy as a consolation? It's happened twice now and it looks a bit suss.
Or maybe the actual reason without the tin foil hat is the AA selectors recognise her season and the Umpires don't.

Because it was stupid and insulting then and it’s stupid and insulting now.

l was never expecting Jas to win it and thought Ash had the better season however l did think that Jas would have polled better than what she did...
Umpires pay marks when kicks travel 6 metres. They selectively ignore throws, high tackles and choose to allow incorrect disposals then ping legitimate attempts to get rid of the ball out of the blue. They appear to pay favourites and penalise lesser players.

And yet some people are surprised when the same umpires award votes to players who had unremarkable games over others that would have been rated elite on any objective scale.

The outcome related to Jasmine Garner was foreshadowed on the weekend's Fox broadcast (and also a couple of weeks prior) when it was said that she's a great player but "we know that the umpires don't see her" or words to that effect. But it's bizarre that a player who's generally in the game from start to finish, who hits targets by hand and foot, who can tackle, handpass and kick at probably the highest standard in the league, who hits the scoreboard on a regular basis and who is almost always among the top in statistics can be so blatantly ignored by those who's job it is to be watching the game more diligently than anyone else.

Something is awry.

Honestly, even more than in men’s games, the umpires do not have the experience, game knowledge or bandwidth to be judging individual performances. The W does not have to do things the same way and doesn’t - its umpires are less experienced and everyone has to accept that they are learning on the job. They should bin this annual debacle and combine the AA team announcement with the MVP award.

I have long been of the opinion that the BnF should be voted on by past players (more so thought about this for the men's but it is absolutely appropriate for the Women's)

Each club nominates a series of former players who fit a certain criteria (games played etc). Then those ex players form a 3 person panel and vote on singular games that do not include the team/s they played for.

For the W there would likely be a need to call on some ex mens players to make the pool big enough to begin with.

I absolutely think this is likely a fairer way of doing things.

Is there gambling on specific rounds and specific players with regards to votes?

Could someone place a bet on someone, let’s just say it’s Gabbi Featherstone for example,
to get exactly 1 vote and the game she gets that vote is North vs Cats?

Dunno if it gets that niche.

By the AFL's own ranking points system she was the 29th ranked plyer on the ground.

29th.

adjudged 3rd best afield.

They can ask us to respect them, they can dedicated rounds to them, they can give them a bunch of awards, mic them up and give us tragic backstories for all of them and so long as they continue to do ridiculous shit like giving players that are objectively no where near it kudos like that they will remain one of the poorer aspects of the game.
