Has crap was the coverage - from having crowd shots and replays while there was live action happening.

Isaac smith was ok
Yeah, he deserves some credit. Obviously didn't know our team very well and was goaded by the rest of the commentary team into crapping on about himself and Geelong but at times he was the only one pumping up a very strong performance by us

We definitely showed that we're the real deal this season, after overcoming a 3 goal deficit at half time, to steady the ship after half time then to overcome a desperate Geelong outfit in the final quarter definitely showed the Shinboner spirit is alive and well with the Women's too.

Jassy and Mia were great in the coalface once again while Ash was just Ash.

I think the article on the AFLW site was largely written in the first half and only slightly updated - hardly anything in it about North at all. And their comparison between Garner and Prespakis includes tackles for only one of them so makes that one look like they had the better game of the two - you’ll never guess which one it is.

I really liked O'Shea's game tonight as well, she is a tough combative player who doesn't take a backward step. I think she must spend time on the training track with Mia King, because she has that "see ball, hunt ball" mentality that we all love in Mia. And to come from a sport that isn't as combative as AFLW it's a new skill set she has had to learn (especially tackling) and she has picked it up really quickly.

Nice bit in the #kangaroos podcast interview with Jas Garner this week when she said O’Shea was the toughest player at the club, and recalled a training session soon after Erika arrived when Grace Campbell absolutely went through her and she bounced straight back up.

Haha, no. Slightly disturbing that I would have a doppelgänger.
It was around the time someone here commented unfavourably on the look of the crowd so probably just as well.

Mia must have been a little disappointed hearing that.

In some ways, that was as good a win as we have ever had. In past seasons, maybe not 2020 so much, the girls probably would not have fought back to get the chocolates, after a poor first half and being on the wrong end of a very, very poor display by the umpires.

I may be wrong, but to fight back like they did, I think augurs well for the girls this year. We are playing a brand of football that is in my opinion a class above many other clubs and if they can maintain that, then hopefully a top 4 position awaits and then who knows where from that.

Back to the umpires. I think the standard of umpiring is a huge issue for the AFL. It is simply not good enough. In the first half today, they were paying frees to Geelong, but not paying them to our girls for almost identical incidents. Two of Geelong's three goals were from frees, both of which in my eyes at least were really tough decisions against us. The first was to my eyes at least an insufficient opportunity for our girl to get rid of the ball. The second could have been judged as a high tackle by the Geelong player in my opinion.

Equally the ruck free and goal to Tahlia Randall, I thought was wrong and could have easily been paid the other way as a blocking free. But thank goodness it didn't because at least we got one back.

Tonight Melbourne lost the free kick count 24 to 18. In my opinion, same scenario, frees paid to Carlton but similar incidents not paid to Melbourne. Melbourne's poor kicking for goal cost them more than anything else, but the umpiring also had an influence on the result.

Well done girls. Have a good feeling about this year.

Had a read now, almost couldn't tell we played.

How adorable was Gatty in the post-match presser?
She is so cute - and Crocks looked so happy and proud of her, as he should be, her game was massive and the progress she has shown is fantastic.

If the AFL is wondering about the popularity of the AFLW, maybe their comms should contact Fairfax. There were two games yesterday, both exciting, come from behind wins. One isn't even mentioned on the sports pages. But there is plenty of filler passing as analysis.
This Hun headline is great, though.

This commentary is nauseating. You'd think there's only one side out there

My favourite bit was when Smelli Underwood implied that Laura Kane somehow used her power to set North up as a super team, unlike little Geelong that had grown organically.

Came in to say basically the same thing Horace. The two goals from free kicks to Geelong were a disgrace. Zero opportunity to dispose for Ferguson and Pullar appeared to get a dribble kick away as well as the high tackle. As you pointed out Randall’s goal evened it out somewhat, but you take theirs away and they have only one for the match and didn’t really look like getting too many others.

It’s easier to talk that sh*t than it is to say:

‘ North are a super team because of the decade of work they did when no one was looking.’

Gatt has improved massively so far this season.

Gatt's ceiling is so high. All Australian, best in the comp in her position stuff.

She naturally holds her width, she's fast, high footy IQ, goes when it is her turn, good kick.

Got those long arms and legs that let her just impact a contest at the last moment too.
