So unless Lions got thrashed by enough to drop 12% we look like playing Crows again to start the finals? Tough opponent but nice to play them over here for once.
You just know the afl will schedule it at Adelaide oval because finals and bigger capacity crowd.

No, they won’t because we are the home team.

Night changes: League eyes timeslot switch for AFLW GF

The AFL is strongly considering holding the 2024 NAB AFLW Grand Final at night, in a first for both the men and women's competition

THE AFL is seriously considering the prospect of a first ever night Grand Final for this season’s NAB AFLW decider.
While a final decision is yet to be made, it’s understood the League has recently been canvassing clubs and key stakeholders around the potential of the 2024 NAB AFLW Grand Final being hosted under lights in a primetime position for the first time.
While a date of November 30 has been locked in, the venue for the Grand Final remains unknown, given AFLW rules dictate it is hosted by the highest-ranked qualifier, though clubs have become aware it is now a possibility the season's showpiece event will be played at night regardless of where it’s held.
Tin foil hat on, but does this mean, if we made GF, we could lose home ground advantage and they play it at Marvel? Assuming the lights aren’t up to scratch at Arden st. Or am I misunderstanding the “hosted by highest-ranked qualifier” line?

IMO all Melbourne finals should be at Docklands.

The AFL own it and it is worlds better than Carlton’s shithole.

I also think that our style of footy on that deck would be chaos.

We aren't playing multiple finals at Arden St. We were top ranked team in 2 of the finals last year but had to play them at Princes Park.

Marvel isn't available (concerts and supercross) and obviously the GF won't be at Arden Street, regardless of start time.
The Docklands stadium not being available for football but it is available for motorbikes is all sorts of bullshit and imo exactly where the AFL actually place the AFLW.

They need to do it properly.

That’s crows locked in first week finals but at least Ponter got injured

Not sure I like that comment. I don't want to see anyone injured.

Least of all to any of our girls. As we have approached the end of the season I have watched each game with increasing apprehension that one of our girls might suffer a season ending injury.

We are in excellent shape at the present apart from our great leader, who remains in doubt for the finals, in my opinion.

But an injury or two could quickly change that. Memories of Jenna Bruton last year and the impact that had on the GF. :'(

My view is that the AFL has little regard for the AFLW. I doubt if they ever really wanted to start it in the first place, but having started it, with crowds much lower than they would have hoped for, it is almost certainly putting a dent in their finances.

So rather than fixture the games at the better stadia, that might attract bigger crowds, they send teams to out of date facilities, which are not conducive to attracting larger crowds to games. As far as I am aware, the only AFL Mens venue that has been used, is GMHBA at Geelong.

And of course they really thumbed their noses at the competition by that ridiculous three games in two weeks part of the fixture. If that was the work of Laura Kane, who allegedly said she loved the concept, then she should be sacked.

Aflw really needs 15-20k arena that clubs can play finals at and it doesn’t look empty

One of the problems, especially in Melbourne is that the suburban grounds have tended to demolish old stands and terraces on the outer side of the ground so spectators tend to congregate on the broadcast side of the ground where all the facilities are and that means it looks empty on TV. This is the case at Arden St, Western Oval, Windy Hill, Victoria Park, Punt Rd, and Moorabbin. Even at Kardinia Park, they foolishly block off the outer side and force the crowd to the broadcast side, which is totally an own goal by Geelong and the AFL. The only ground to buck this trend is Princes Park, and even then, half of the outer wing side of the ground is now inaccessible due to the admin buildings.

Princes Park could be a great option for AFLW if:

A) they hadn’t built that ugly new building so close to Royal Pde end goals which restricts capacity and free movement of supporters

B) they didn’t have one stand that looks to be condemned. It looks decrepit and further restricts the capacity

C) they hadn’t installed those overly tall interchange shelters which leave the standing areas behind it empty as you can’t see the ground properly.

Apart from that it’s ok 😬

D) If it was vaguely accessible by public transport to those that don't live on the one tram line in the area.
