The way it is working at the moment, we are doing OK, but we can't bank on shonky coaching or Sav beating every opponent week in, week out, particuarly against the best in the business.

To even suggest we won because of bad coaching by the opposition is an insult. Why can't you just give credit where it's due??

At this point with the development of the team, we are a long away from being able to compete against the best in the business. The real question is whether we're heading in the right direction or not, and the evidence seems to say that we are.

Well, I am glad the players aren't so negative and have more belief in themselves.

As for Petrie, you have proved my point. He isn't being considered a valuable marking target, which means that if someone comes along who can provide that, he will probably lose the no. 2 mantle.

Thanks Shinners ;)

We were talking about the forward setup, not the entire game. If Rocca was that menacing, he had options in Hadrill, Polak and Mc Pharlin.

He's being asked to play a negative role - drag the opposition's best player out of the 50m arc and create some space for Rocca to lead into. It seems that you fail to understand that with your comments about him not deserving his spot in the team.

It would also seem to indicate that Laidley is coaching well (as opposed to your comments earlier this season). He is showing faith in Petrie in the same way that he's shown faith in Brown (our best tall), Wells (shining), and Motlop (best game so far).

If you're going to claim that my comments support your point of view, then perhaps you should acknowledge that you've got it badly wrong with some of your ideas.

I haven't said he doesn't deserve a spot in the team, but moreso that he hasn't played well this year and that he is not a great marking target at the moment. If we want to use him as a dummy, then great, do it, but don't tell me that Drew is playing well.

On Laidley, again, yes, he is coaching better. I acknowledge that, doesn't make my earlier comments any less relevent for that period of time or any less correct.

On Rocca, I thought he was a threat, but Connelly obviously didn't think so. And Polak was on him for about 10 minutes and then he put the young guy back on him. Haddrill would have been the best bet, but glad he didn't do it!

The best post I have read here this year was where someone took notes on Jason McCartney's interview - he said the players were not playing to the gameplan and kicking short too often - these were not the instructions from the coach (or something like that).

I'd like to see the stats on long kicks v short kicks from last nights game compared to a few months back..

Is he coaching better or are the players adapting to his best option football.

Laidley is coaching better and the side is playing a better brand of footy- thanks to Laidleys coaching and knowledge of the opposition.

We are winning.

I don't care how **** Conolly coached last night, it isn't our problem, it's his.. Laidley coached brilliantly- as he did against Essendon and as he will against Carlton.

Go Roos

I agree with MOTI on this one. Massive coaching blunder by Connelly. They needed to shut down Sav to win the game. Leaving that kids on him for most of the game was stupid. Should have kept Polak on Sav not switch back.

They didn't. Good!

Only reason why Moti is trying to not only convince us but himself that Connolly's coaching lost Freo the game is that if he gave our team the plaudits for winning it, it would prove his 'theories' on our team are rubbish completely off the mark (as they always are).

Experience and wiser heads (along with a skosh of magic from the Wellsmeister) sealed our victory. And fancy saying a player who has booted 660-odd goals in his career is NO threat. He should also look at the defensive aspects of Petrie's forwards play. He is the best 'one percenter' in the team by a long way.

Flamin' mongrel!!
