noticed carrots with ice to the knee after three quarter time, precautionary?

Not really much to talk about from both sides today tbh, Graham looks the goods though

carrots injury has already been mentioned in this thread.

Not much of a day for Northern, as I said above there were a lot of players unavailable for the club but as a team they were beaten to the ball a lot and didn't look to be taking the game on or kicking the ball long and direct enough.

Graham had a lot of the ball but was quite often gang tackled without a team mate in sight to get it out to. Often had to hang onto it and take the tackle due to the other onballers lack of movement. Ball use was decent when he had it on the outside.

Carrazzo was very prominent in open play around the ground in the first quarter but then had his thigh strapped up in the second and was hardly sighted. Came back on in the third and actually looked ok but came off early in the last quarter and didn't come back on. Had a bit of a limp after the game, hopefully just a corkie.

Temay ran through the midfield this week as opposed to playing as a defensive forward and was good. Picked up a fair bit of the ball on the outside, run and carry was good and he used the ball well. Had some good inside 50s. Ran hard between the arcs and was rotated heavily. Did enough.

Holman didn't get a heap of the ball but layed some beautiful tackles, had two very strong tackles in the last quarter where his opponents tried to take him on and were made to look silly. Appeared to put in four quarters of hard running.

Lucas was heavily tagged and couldn't shake it. Played on the wing all day and couldn't get free, was caught nearly every time he had the ball.

Watson was good defensively and didn't seem to make many mistakes during the day but our hesitant method of moving the ball forward meant we didn't really see his kicking skills on display.

Giles found the going pretty tough in the first half but did improve a bit in the second half. McInness went the other way after a faultless first half.

Sheehan had a promising game. Uses his body well and likes to do the extra bumping/blocking when he's out of the contest which is encouraging to see this early in his career. One of the few who tried to take the game on as he tried to break the lines a bit and run the ball from HB in the third quarter. Very nice kick and nailed a good long goal late in the third quarter.

Half forwards Byrne, Reynolds and Johnson were starved of opportunity most of the day, Byrne did a few nice things though and throws his body at the ball no matter what else is coming his way. Plenty to work with and could be a good player after another pre-season.

Wood pretty well broke even with Thurlow but was probably a bit better around the ground.

NB listed players Cattapan and Wilson are very impressive at this level and Tardio should be at least a good VFL onballer once he's had a few more pre-seasons and got himself super fit.

Love hearing how well Sheehan is coming on. Always rated him when he was running around for Cork.

Anyone care to talk about today's game?
Worst performance as a group for the year, by far.
Just didn't come out and play today and unfortunately couple of the better competitors were Sheehan and Byrne.

Carrazzo was good for his game time but may have copped a good corkie. Limping after the game.
Graham had plenty of the ball again but getting little support and got held up on numerous occasions.
Holman attacked hard and got frustrated on a couple of occasions for decisions wrongly given against him.
Sheehan looked good and was highly competitive. One of the few that took the game on today.

The forward line didn't have a chance which was unfortunate if you wanted to see Johnson and Byrne. Given next to no opportunity.
The backs didn't hold up well for all the easy ball coming from up the field. Not a great day for the collective.

There are a couple of guys who will not see another AFL match if they keep producing what they have here today. Unfortunate.

Disappointing day as the effort wasn't up to par and some of the execution was................execution-able.

Which players, in particular, let the team down today?

NORTHERN BLUES

Goal Kickers: T. Wilson 2, A. Carrazzo , L. Reynolds , N. Graham , C. Wood , B. Bransgrove , C. Sheehan
Best Players: T. Wilson, C. Sheehan, D. Watson, N. Graham, S. Cattapan, N. Holman

Sheehan could hardly handle a ball 4 months ago and he's named the best CFC listed player today.......
Good on him as he's incrementally got better each game. Loved his endeavour again today.

Had have the forward line been given half as much a chance as the Essendon forwards had, Byrne may have also been listed here.

I reckon MEB would be a Davey Ellard type. Small, strong, gives it anything.

Would piss blood if it was a requirement. Ok, maybe a little too far, however, she'd be that type of player. All heart!

I thought everyone pissed blood?

It looks like our midfield is getting plenty of the ball, and getting good service from Wood, so where are we falling down? The lack of a lead-up marking target?

It helps when we kick straight of course.

1. Kids..........Lots of kids, whether that be our first year players or the young and new to this level, NB players.
2. Learning to play together. Very little system. Effort is largely there but it's all very stop start. No fluency through the game plan at all.
3. A couple of the Carlton listed players are putting in half-hearted efforts. That's the most disappointing aspect.
4. Players are also played out of their comfort zones. i.e. Temay playing forward....Reynolds playing back.

The Northern Blues lost to Werribee by 100 points a few weeks back but this was actually the poorer of the two efforts.

The bigger picture is the player development but on yesterday's effort, you can only say that Sheehan and Byrne moved northwards.
It is only one game though and I can see that some are calling doom and gloom.
I wouldn't go that far as many of the guys have shown very good signs before yesterday but unfortunately those same people didn't see those game.

Yeah, NB lost significant talent (like Lambert) from an already thin VFL list. It can't be helping.

It can be although it's not really showing up just yet.

Lambert had too much support from his NB mates and with he, Marcon and Giafagna gone, it's up to the Carlton listed players to get first use of the ball.
Yesterday we had Graham and Carrazzo being two of the better players through the centre, but Docherty and Holman have also had time through the middle in recent weeks.
Mick likes mixing it around but only time will tell whether that was useful or counter-productive for some of the kids.

I guess most want to see a win at the end of the day yet I'd sooner see a loss but to know that the CFC listed boys are building.
Unfortunately yesterday just wasn't one of those days.
