How does he compare to former Port Melbourne forward/ruck Adrian DeLuca?
Does Harry play ruck?

Right now he isn't half the forward Dean Galea was despite being twice his size.

I haven't watched Harry week in week out but he doesn't work hard enough. I hope it's work rate not lack of footy smarts.

Well that result was flattering. 23 points and thoroughly outplayed. 17 AFL listed players? Insipid and pathetic is a fair description of the skills and effort. Where to from here? Just weed out the guys who think playing VFL is beneath their talent. Drop the guys who aren't good enough to play at this level. Praise to Wilson, Russell, Stavrou and O'Shea as VFL guys who show effort and get plenty of the ball. As for the others Byrne, Boekhorst, Smedts and Pickett (when he gets near the ball) were the best among our listed players. Polson got another tagging job and reduced the effect of O'Sullivan in the second half. Harry McKay? 13 goals in 10 matches. Second for contested marks in the VFL. Probably ranks first for dropped marks. He needs another 10 kilos. Gets pushed out and under too easily. Unless the MC take a different course Harry won't get a game this year.

From memory of his highlights videos, he did a few boundary throw-ins at U18 level. But De-Luke was never the main option when we had Bananaby around.

I'm just surprised Harry hasn't been given a taste given a run at AFL level might blow away any complacency - I wouldn't expect any more than Sam Weedyman from Melbourne has contributed. I guess Bolton is hoping not to curse the kid like we did with Matty Watson.

When it comes to call ups a coach like Bolton will know what he wants kids like McKay to do before they get the gig.

He will get a run when the powers to be feels he deserves but Today he didn't do Alot to impress.

I haven't seen much of him otherwise so I'm not writing him off just pointing out what I saw today and hoping it's not the regular.

I want him to be a star afl forward as much as everyone else here

The local footy players are too big, too strong and too skilful.

What?
Better squad for this level, which has a slower track and windier conditions.

Geez Jason Bennett is a quality caller. Knows all the players without the wank.
Not particularly loquacious in any sense though. He's too close to the stilted end of the stilted-wank spectrum. Didn't really notice it until I heard a lot of on the AFLW coverage.

Also not assertive with his fellow hosts, and tends to pander to them and the lightweight scripts a little too much.

Thoughts on Templeton getting a rookie spot?
Has had a good game and good season.
Was spoken about at trade time last year. Looked good at the saints before he got injured.
I think you'll find we were trying to get him into the VFL squad.

Federico could be something. 17yo.

I thought he lacked pace and his kicking was sloppy.

A few have made these comments. He was definitely working harder earlier in the season. Probably feeling the pinch like most youngsters now that we're in the back stretch.

Further observations. PCO is in crap condition. They should not be playing VFL football there.

Not too many positives to come out of the game. Boeky though was our best. One of only a couple of NB players to one grab the ball (Byrne was the other).

Byrne is ready to return to the seniors. All being well today will have been his last game for the NB. He is several classes above this level.

Polson seemed to have his mojo back today. It was a shame he had to be moved into a tagging role in the 2nd half, because it robbed us of a proactive midfield option. To his credit though he did the job well on O'Sullivan & kept him to 7 disposals for the 2nd half. He could be a handy back up for Ed Curnow in 2-3 years' time, although he must be played as a midfielder first. On a side note, I thought he was very unlucky to be penalised for running too far in the 3rd quarter. If it was more than 15 metres, it was 16 at the most.

Pickett excites me. I can't wait to see him after he has had a full pre-season. At the moment he flashes in & out of games, but what he does is freaky good.

McKay is playing frustrated football at the moment. The NB midfield is lacking quality & as a result there are not too many decent forward entries for McKay. Obviously he needs to do a bit more to work his way into the game, but I'm beginning to think we might have to bite the bullet & give him a run in the seniors to see how he performs on the end of a much better midfield.

Overall, we may have had 17 Carlton listed players playing today, but I would suggest only about half of them are likely to push for a spot at senior level in the next year or so.

I'm no groundskeeper but the PCO needs some close attention. Surely Carlton could put some money into the surface as it's important for the development of our players to have a good track to play on. I look at the ground and its patchiness tells me that the grasscover is couch. Even the couch in my backyard is dying off and yellowing. Get a turf doctor in there and fix it. Blue fescue? Buffalo? Kikuyu? I don't care but spend some dosh (or play the games at Carlton).

bit late but polson i am a bit worried
He was reasonable today, cracks in really hard. Did a brilliant job on O'Sullivan in the second half (had 23 to half time then finished on 29 I believe).

You have to be patient with Polson, remember its his first year and he has not played much footy at all over the last two seasons. Its the back end of a long season and he's probably a bit cooked. Deep breaths. He'll be great

I haven't seen much of him so I'm purely talking from a limited scope. And I wasn't at the game so I didn't see his work off the ball but it was clear he beats the ball and just hopes he wins contests with his height. That won't work at afl level

McKay looks frustrated and isn't putting in enough.. Still think he will make it.

Pickett showed amazing glimpses. Still excited here.

Polson had good energy but needs more polish and experience. Still upbeat.

Lebois looked lost. Concerned.

BB was very good. Perhaps there's hope?

Smedts looks a midfielder after all.. Perhaps there's hope here as well?

Best game I've seen GMac play.

Byrne has earned a call up. Yay.

After watching this game, i know why McKay hasnt been selected in the 1's yet.
Byrne will be in next game or the one after.
Picket tryed hard but didnt effect the contest that much, ran out of gas.
Polson tried hard, not clean enough.
Pickett will be alot better next year. He just needed to get back to playing football this year.

This could be the most positive post I've ever seen you make.
