I'm involved in the EFNL, but not at club level. What does the delayed start to the season mean to clubs? What will the season look like when it can start up? Will it start up? Will every club be able to be involved? Are any in serious danger? Juniors?
No play for this year unless a vaccine is developed. No juniors either, parents won't risk their kids being exposed. Clubs will survive if councils don't charge them for ground and club room rental. Sponsorship will virtually cease to exist.

Another post you should delete from this forum, have you lost the plot old timer If you are stuggling to find about something to talk about how about Box Hill.Could they be back in the EDNFL some time with the future of the VFL in doubt in its current format.
You changed from the last post. And who is the EDFNL. Essendon District Football Netball League?

I tend to agree. But councils will run from their own agenda and will get hit as much as anyone. They aren't the bad guys - they have to support local sport, but have to support all other council interests too. Therefore, I don't know where the current 45-team structure stands.

I can't see any EFNL games being played in 2020.

I do know that Whitehorse has already done it for other sporting associations and for community groups. Without their support a lot of them would simply disappear.

That’s an interesting point you raise Cliff. Certainly at the lower levels of Sponsorship there will be a struggle. The smaller family type businesses.

Clubs with higher level major sponsors with an attachment to the club will get through ok.

Has to be a concern for a lot of clubs.

If no EFNL this season important clubs support their sponsors to who most will be struggling right now and to expect sponsors to contribute the same amount both seasons especially with a non season this year is not on.I am sure clubs are conscious of this one and the number of clubs supporting sponsors currently on their club sites is pleasing.Probally looking to far ahead but 2021 all players for the love of the game I would like (zero pay,X amount for a win like the old days). But to be fair to those players they could be doing it tough to when I say no payment EFNL footballers 2021.

The AFL Victoria's statewide "club sustainability committee" has said that local leagues will have to reduce their salary caps for this year and 2021 by 50% in order to help clubs regain financial stability.

You can only really support your sponsors if they are still open. Sadly many small businesses are closed.
If you were someone who had to lay off workers, would you still feel committed to putting in sponsorship money. Lets face it, businesses sponsor clubs in the hope that they will get some business back via the club, in these times money won't be there for people to spend.
Unfortunately, I believe that sponsorship will nose dive and virtually dry up.
A lot will depend on the attitude local councils take to ground and clubroom costs.

And there goes with what I said about councils, their income will dry up and perhaps future developments for club might have to be put on hold and even places like the Whitehorse Centre.Spoke to the council last week about a couple of issues and they told they were still going to cover the cricket pitches which they all ready have done at some grounds.Personally I would have thought they would have held back on that one till the future of EFNL footy was known for 2020 to save expenses. Any one bored at home right now and a cricket nut like myself I would recommend getting your old scorebooks out and start putting them on My Cricket. Is not a easy exercise but a couple of us at Mitcham having being working on this one for 3 or 4 years and we hope to have nearly all our senior scorebooks we have on My Cricket back to 67/68 soon (we have about 98% of our scorebooks)

Where did you get that from Cliff? I wonder how at this point clubs have lost their financial stability.

Whitehorse Leader. I would guess that they are assuming that clubs will find money difficult to come by over the next year or so.

Looking at the article, my description was stability where, in the actual article it is described as 'to help clubs regain their financial footing"

I would think every one reads Andrew Bolts article in Herald Sun today and I am sure there are many have reservations including me about the article but plenty of positives in there for me and I know I am not going to "give up on this virus that is hurting us all " and I will remain positive.

So a 50% reduction in the salary cap when we don’t even know what the cards are at this point.

The SFL club that lost the $4k sponsor set it aside for ground hire. Just how many times are they likely to use the ground in 2020? Possibly none, surely the council cannot charge in such a circumstance.

The article even states league are waiting in regards to affiliate fees to see what transpires. Not sure why there is a stampede to reduce caps without any clear data at this point.

You would think a responsible committee would have spoken to clubs before making the decision they have, but who knows.

What a sad day 4th April 2020 1st round is for EFNL footy.Should be down at Walker Park right now helping set up for what would have been a big day for the Mitcham FC v East Ringwood.A big crowd, unfurling the flag, ground in great condition and the new rooms more or less finished but would have not been in use today.I am sure similar feelings around all clubs but as Cliff said,"stay at home" and perhaps the season might start in June.Personally I think for all local clubs the best option is no football in season 2020 at this stage. Our club sponsors are also under great pressure to survive and to expect them to provide sponsorship this year and next is perhaps to big a ask.No.1 is our clubs and important they all survive. If we can say start July how about we consider playing our juniors only till the end of September, these kids are our future.

PS As a follow up to my comments a interesting post on Big Footy,Outer East is worth have a read.Plenty of ideas if a season did start say July.Play senior games on Wednesday night and Saturday,no reserves, etc.

So whats the progress.
Unfortunately, my clubs records ended up at the tip. We had every scorebook from the clubs beginning as a junior club. Our secretary had them stored in the garage at home. He moved out and left the scorebooks there. His father starting to suffer from dementia decided he needed more room in his garage and took all of them to the tip without asking his son if they were needed and 20 years of records went.:'(
The saddest part is that one of our players played for 53 years and would have easily passed 500 games. I don't believe that anyone else in the Association has played that many games. A few with 400 but no one with 500.

Who was the player that played 53 years? Have worked on this a lot over the last 3 days, what else am I going to do.lol.We now have only 1990/91 to 1995/96 in the lower grades to put on (the1's and 2's are on) and we will have all on back to 67/68.Still have 2 or 3 seasons where we do not have books and other clubs have helped us with that one.If any one at your club sees a game against Mitcham where our details are on My Cricket you are most welcolme to approach us and we can give you a copy of the book. All MCC fixtures are on My Cricket back to 67/68.Another way is visit the library and go through the local papers and you will get results and some player scores but is very time consuming. Our club historian has spent a lot of time doing this,I have done 6 or 7 times and fallen into the trap of starting to read the old papers instead of focusing on getting the cricket details I need.
