Heidelberg looking to move into EFNL also. Heard from a very good source (EFNL 2024 premiership coach) Would go straight into division 1. Watch this space
Doubt there is any truth to this but Heidelberg would be more than competitive in Prem. They are 5 games clear on top in Northern for a reason. They are a bloody good side and should win gf today. They would win Div 1 easily.
Think todays granny will be a ripper with East Ringwood by 9 pts

Close fought game. Not a great standard of play, which I guess wasn't helped by the quality of the ground. The winter grass makes it look even worse. Mitcham was miles better than either Bayswater or Boronia.

Was an ordinary game of footy and the umpiring wasn’t great. Well done Balwyn though. But Delaney for east Ringwood was the best player on the ground by a country mile, gave Haley a bath
Umpiring was shocking! East Ringwood had plenty of chances but couldn’t capitalise

Ground was shocking, not as big a crowd as usual either, do Balwyn actually have any supporters? Or is that the only thing they can’t buy?

Very few supporters. All their players from the last 20 years have been mercenaries so they don’t hang around post playing. A new president and committee took over a year or two ago and the first thing they did was basically acquire a junior club, and they are pushing that hard. Good luck to them.

Good win today. Deserved the flag. Haley barely got a kick so a good win.

It’s got me totally beat why the EFNL is so invested in Bayswater as its premier venue. Personally I think Mitcham is far better all in every regard.

Parking is a ton better. bayswater probably pay them the most money no doubt. Acquire the junior balwyn team you mean? or another?

why don't the efl think of using box hill ground ? because it's too big ?
every other league in melb uses the old vfa ground in the area. decided to go preston city oval today for northern league grand final . atmosphere was great . close to the action . great ground for local footy .
bayswater not a great advertisement for EFl to be honest.
spend some money on the surface and also the spectator facilities. its a shit hole and an embarrassment when compared to other league finals venues

Maybe they want to keep it in house, keep the money in the EFL Clubs/league rather than fill another club/leagues pocket. Which I can respect

Would be interesting to know how many are still around from their last flag on 2016. I’d say most clubs you’d expect a handful still but wouldn’t shock me if this was a whole new 22 today.

Yep zero remaining. I think Pendlebury left last year and was probably the last one.

Totally agree. Edfl gf played at Windy Hill,Northern at Preston, MPFNL at Frankston Park all venues used for Vfl and or Aflw and the surface at all grounds were in perfect condition.

Looks like there is 1 left but didn’t play in the 2016 flag.

Jayme Gottliebsen played 2012, 2013 & 2015. Looks to be one took from North Ringwood juniors.

If you are looking at the best club in the EDFL to host finals.I might be bias but Walker Park the MCG of the East is my call.We tick all boxes but only if the size of the ground was bigger.Small ground perhaps great atmosphere but awesome facilities great ground surface and awesome number of volunteers that have made D2 finals so much success this season.

I think Box Hill may have been used as a secondary finals venue for Div 1 a number of years ago.

If I remember correctly (and I may not) the thinking was that it’s not really close enough to “traditional” EFL heartland (the outer east) and so crowds would be affected.

The other thing is money. EFL clubs pay the league to host finals and the club organises and staffs it all. If it were at Box Hill assume the league would have to pay to use it and organise all the operations.

The EFL is in a far better financial situation than any other league and I reckon their finals model is probably a big part of that. Not that they ever seem to spend the money on anything, like better admin or umpiring.

As I said Mitcham for mine is close to VFL standard and by far the best venue in the league. Why they became so fixated on Bayswater, I don’t know.

Bayswater used to be the premier ground in the competition a long time ago in the days of the late Norm Wright who was a great curator. The issue now is Knox Council and their lack of investment/ apathy towards the management/ maintenance of sporting facilities in recent times. Have a look at minimal investment into pavilions or facilities and a club like Boronia having to do all the work to get funding of their new pavilion which was not even on Council’s radar. What about the disaster at UFTG and their pavilion, that sums up the whole situation.

Their maintenance of ovals is embarrassing. Have a look at The Basin which was rebuilt a few years ago and due to poor maintenance is in a bad state again. Council has cut services over years and has people in charge of parks, gardens and sportsfields who have no experience/ background in the respective area. They’ve lost a number of great sportsfield maintenance staff such as the young fellow that was previously at Bayswater who was a star as a result of their lack of investment and providing opportunities to him. Council elections there cannot come quickly enough.

Would being in a liberal area in a labour state government also effect your chances of getting some help with new rooms?

Boronia is in the Bayswater electorate in the state government. The local member has been a good supporter but he doesn’t have a big influence around the decision making table as he is a backbencher. Unfortunately also the state government is pretty much broke which doesn’t help community sport in any form.
