I really wouldn’t know tbh. I don’t watch enough these days and it’s very hard to compare across leagues if the clubs don’t play each other.

One thing I would say is imo no country footy is on the level of metro footy these days. There just isn’t the population to draw from. They can buy all the FIFO imports they like but it doesn’t match the depth and recruiting pool that metro clubs have. People still talk about how strong O&M etc is and while it’s good footy, it’s not what it was. The top metro leagues are better.

From afar it looks like there is the usual strong suspects like Frankston YCW, Dingley, Cheltenham, Heidelberg and Keilor who are getting it done (or close) every year. Interestingly the EFL seems to not have that standout club or two at the moment, which is great. It’s a lot more even with different premiers over the past five years. Where they rank against those other clubs, I don’t know.
Watched the O&M Grand Final yesterday, Those 2 teams would easily hold more than their own against Balwyn & ER.

Easterns depth in the lower divisions is of higher standard than bottom divisions from other leagues, But not quite sure the top tier teams of EFNL are that much better than the top sides from O&M, VAFA ect... We tend to overrate our own.

Yeah I feel like Eastern is much more even both across Premier and down thru the divisions.

There are some very strong sides in D1, D2 and even D3 by the looks.

Agree EFNL need to look past Boronia and Bayswater. Both very run down and the surface is an embarrassment.

I was against Ringwood previously but i think they have a lot going for them now, the surface is immaculate but they have very little to no cover and people aren't allowed on the balcony during finals.
Premier cricket is played at Ringwood. This will make it hard to host finals deep into September. Bayswater cricket club will do it tough through October now

Not big on writing off grounds because of their size but Ringwood is just ridiculous and should never host finals. Far far far too big for a decent game of footy.

I used to have this opinion but after watching all of div 3 finals there this year Ive changed. The two Surrey V Donvale games were probably the two best finals from all divisions this year. The Premier games there were also good.

Jubilee was a first rate venue. Great ground and facilities. Not sure what you mean by “too big”? I like a genuine 50m arc

That was East Burwood in 2000, only year EFL played there I believe. Might be available again once Hawthorn move to Doveton Dingley.

What was the reason for playing it there? I only remember because I used to go with my dad to watch the grand final and we couldn't go that year.

I remember in 99 EB won it but nobody cared as everyone was listening to the end of the Carlton v Essendon PF on the radio.

Not relevant but for local cricket I think the RDCA made the right decision by having the winner of the QF host the Grand Final in the top grades.

Bayswater -
East Burwood -
Fairpark -
Forest Hill - Stewart Pearce (Doveton Doves)
Kilsyth - Damian Murray (Bayswater, ex East Burwood assistant)
Waverley Blues -

Still 4 clubs without a coach and its starting to get into the period where everyone switches off footy for a bit.

For the clubs still looking for a coach they could do a lot worse than former Basin coach Justin Stanton who just took Nar Nar Goon to a flag (only their second premiership since 1980) and somehow didn't keep his job. Told that the coach was given some advice mid year that the club expected to be doing better (they were 3rd on the ladder at the time). Coach informed power brokers he thought they would be right and had some players coming back form injury. Coach was right, won the flag but club were sheepish about reappointment. Told he offered his resignation last week to see if they would blink, and they accepted it. Fair to say hasn't gone down well with comments turned off their facebook page. Suspicion is they didn't expect to win and had already signed someone for next year

RDCA was a great call. With no entry and no security. Was a lot of byo and a waste of time for clubs to host especially if they also had a team playing.

Even more impressive they play with 23 points each week, only 1 two pointer. All ex school

Kinda impressive… a little easier when the school produces gun footballers every year as a result of handing out scholarships to countless gun 15yo sportsmen.

When I umpired in ESCFA in late 80's, we typically used VFA grounds for the finals. Oakleigh, Box Hill, Sandringham, Murrumbeena were all great grounds. Shame nothing much out this way. I umpired the 2000 D3 final at East Burwood and that was a great venue that day.

True... But convincing them to play for free together post u19s is the real challenge, they aren't like SKOB or Xavs with endless "Job Opportunities" to offer

Congratulations to former Mulgrave boy Ryan Lester and great to see the way former Montrose player Oscar McInerney went straight to Darcy Fort to congratulate him after the siren. Commiserations to stalwart Mitcham volunteer, GMac.

Sydney were so bad. Like Horrific. They barely had moments where they looked the better side. Picking up discards from other clubs aint the solution
