Can anyone confirm that NRL betting (at least for the wooden spoon) been suspended.

Heard on the grapevine that someone has placed 500k on the Titans to win the wooden spoon.

it's all to do with that house that was built for scotty prince and the bloke who built made a whoile heap of accusations

Is that the bloke that won the court case over $3 million he said was owed to him by the club?

My guess is they don't have sufficient evidence. Remember Canterbury/Melbourne were solely due to whistleblowers, for all the sooking that goes on, it's not as easy for the NRL to find out as some seem to think.

(& before anyone says it, Carlton were whistleblowers too)

Is that because they are incompetent? Or they just don't want to know?

Still awaiting the much hyped 4 Corners show.

Who, the NRL, the AFL? Who is incompetent?

If something isn't declared, how do you propose they find it?

Using Melbourne as the example, they kept a unique, seperate set of books to the ones declared to the NRL. How do you suggest the NRL uncover such behaviour? Short of... whistleblowers.

4C lol

GC, Souths, Manly, Brisbane...

What I mean is if the Salary Cap Auditor can't find anything unless confessions are made or the club gives him the secret files, what is the point of having him? I understand that the Storm case was intricate but outside whistleblowers we have nought yet most people would believe that the Broncos have operated outside the cap in the past.

Beef it up or just let 'em cut loose.

Mate that's like saying if someone doesn't declare income to the ATO we should let them off the hook, or allow free reign :D

You can only operate the system as best you can. Someone will always find a way to get around any system, be it legal stuff, be it sports competitions, anything. There is always someone out there, greedy and stupid enough to try to gain an unfair advantage sooner or later. It's just unfortunate for the sensible Melbourne fans out there, and IMO the game as a whole, that the Storm happened to hire such a twit.

All we can do is punish those we do find the evidence on.

the 4 corners episode which said it has facts to show other NRL clubs cheating..the NRL fines some clubs last week and the episode due last night was canned..hmmm

Last I heard they were checking it from a legal perspective which may have been why it was canned.

^ i would be still most suprised if the NRL didn't pre-empt anything 4C may want to do and punish clubs if any evidence exists.

If the 4C claims are provable... It's a PR disaster for the league

"If" 4C have anything, they are hardly going to hand it over to the NRL before they have a chance to air it for full public impact and then let allow the NRL to decide whether there is anything in the story or not.

But the fact they are "delaying for legal reasons" mean there is little to the story (if there is one) or they want to get the story right before going to air. I doubt their will be a story.

^ Well that was my original suspicion of course

But in this day and age it's very difficult to keep anything under wraps, if 4C had anything the NRL would know who and where the info was coming from. I mean, how did the fact 4C had a story planned leak in the first place for instance?

Information only remains confidential for as long as it's uninteresting.

The NRL would only know the who and the where if 4C decided to share the information with the NRL, which for the sake of the story I doubt they would until it aired. But I think the leak of a 4C story is just a false rumor and that there really wasn't a story and hence no information, but I only have the information that I haven't read any planned 4C stories coming regarding Rugby League and that I have "leaks" on messagesboard to go by, hardly 100% facts that there is a 4C story coming up.

So the Storm's two sets of books were uninteresting;)

4C is an investigation/expose programme and if they had damaging information such as evidence of Serious breeches of the Salary Cap, they are hardly going to share it until they put it to air and when they do put it to air they are going to make damn sure they are spot on with their information.

But as I said, I haven't seen anything from outside the messageboard world that 4C are even doing a story relating to this or Rugby League in any way.

Sarah Ferguson did the story, unlike some she's not too bad at her profession although I'm sure she was behind the Matty Johns story so that might put a few of you off.

I know she was on the Coast interviewing the Titan's builder joker amongst others. From what I have been told the story is in the can and it was merely awaiting legal approval. The leak suggests three other clubs, bunnies, titans and cowboys should be in just as much strife as the storm.

Not doubting her quaility, as she did win a Walkley aware for the John's story last year which is the highest honour you can get in the profession, I'm just questioning if a story in fact has been done because I haven't seen anything about it except what has been written about it on messageboards and unless there is confirmation from 4C and the ABC that there is a story in the works I would be a little uneasy in believing there is one.

Again I ask, where is this information from? Messageboard rumour, or backup fact? I would love to believe it, but I just can't at this stage.

My quotes come directly from the ABC.

You mean this:

http://www.mediaspy.org/forum/index.php?/topic/14755-four-corners/page__view__findpost__p__707195

They sent out a media release for "Dancing with the Devil" on the 25th as this weeks episode and their website, twitter page and facebook page all say nothing about an "upcoming" story on Rugby League or a story being pulled.

Maybe the story is in the can and is ready to go but they are just awaiting a few final legal checks before airing but I have seen or heard no Media Release from the ABC on the media sites that I read that suggest they have an uncoming Rugby League story or have had one pulled at the last minute. Because if their was there would be evidence of it, on the media sites.

I was listening to the ABC when in Qld, it could have been David Morrow but he said Sarah Ferguson has just come back from Qld where she's been on assignment reporting for an upcoming story centering on Rugby League for 4 Corners. There has been no media release as yet that I m aware of.

Rebecca Wilson also referred to it on one of her crosses into SEN a few weeks back and said the same thing. ie story in the can was going to legals for checking, I know no more than that.

The program exists....whether it ever sees the airwaves....who knows.

Fair enough. I have seen nothing about it except on Messageboards relating to RL hence why I didn't believe it 100%.
