Morris Iemma was on Morning Glory on SEN this morning saying that NSW are due to host an AFL GF. He also said that the AFL should adopt the American system they implement with the Superbowl and rotate the GF venue each year.

Morris, you have clearly been drinking too much "man magic" on Paddington St up there in Thydney.

Haha what a tool.

Maybe that will only happen when every capital city has a 90,000 (minimum) capacity oval ground with up to scratch facilities. And even then the MCC may strike a long term with the AFL when the current one runs out.

He should push for a Western Sydney team, before anything else.

That is the only way that Sydney will ever be able to make any claims over the AFL.

When two teams are up and successfully running is Sydney, then and only then will the AFL be made to take Sydney as anything more than a revenue boost.

He was stirring. I listened to it, and it was a typical Sydney dig at Melbourne.

a very valid point.

especially considering that the Swans were a relocated Melbourne team that has only recently gathered a few bandwagoners in NSW.

To expect 90,000 people to fly in to Sydney from as far away as Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Darwin and Tasmania is a bit much and a blatant tourism grab.

not that I wouldn't fly to Sydney to go ;)

Thats what's going to happen to melbourne next week mate.

He's spot on.

The game needs a GF in Sydney.

It should have been done when the MCG was being rebuilt.

Even then, it's so important that a GF is played in Sydney. It would be fantastic for that game and give the competition a massive, massive shot in the arm.

And let's not forget, it's going to sell-out in a heartbeat, and if your team was in it, and you could get tickets, of course you'd go.

Top idea and will make AFL truely national and leave NRL in their wake:thumbsu:
Capitol cities with big enought staduims (Melbourne and Sydney atm) could bid for the game and make another revenue raiser for footy!

Ah September - Sun shining, birds chirping and bloody politicians spoiling the airwaves.

Just another state politician trying to get tap the old parochial vein.

I wonder if he is as keen on the idea of Melbourne Storm hosting an NRL GF?

Oh **** lest hold the GF in iceland then Bolivia..after that lets take it too london then Alaska (wouldnt need lights for a night game then)

after that We could play it on a ship that gos up and down the swan river in perth...then take it to the Iran

Jesus some of you Victorians are defensive. He was taking the pi ss.

He's actually someone who understands AFL (was a junior and is his first code) which is positve.

I beleive that once the MCG contarct is up in 2032 than I'm happy for the GF to go to the highest bidder (for stadiums that fall under a certain selection criteria). which will predominately be at the MCG as they will have the highest capacity and more people willing to go therefore more money to make from it. But at least that way the AFL get market value for it.

Not that 99% percent of people on this board COULD actually score a ticket anyway so who gives a cr@p if it is played on the moon:confused:
