I understand the money thing nugget and i don't know whether you've seen Kaine play but i've watched this kid for a few years now and when i say a higher level i probably should've said the highest there is. He has the size ,speed and the kind of well-placed aggresion on the field that would put him on any AFL club's radar. Personally i like to see any young local kid of that age with that kind of potential whether he be from Sale ,Maffra or Heyfield play the highest level they can. NGFL will be a step backwards for him.

Spot on 71"GF. Boisdale should not be offering this kid money - they should be encouraging him to play at a higher level.

Yeah he might be a chance to play at AFL level, I don't know. I don't want to get in the whole playing at higher level increasing chances stuff as I think most people know where I stand on this.

I agree with you two posters about offering a kid who is not a senior player to play football, it just doesn't sit well with me. It is more of a reflection on where the club is at rather than Kaine himself, no 16/17 year old is going to turn down money to play a sport they love!!

Do you all know for a FACT that this kid is getting paid? And do you know the real reason he has decided not to commit to Power this season. I know the kid extremely well and it seems the old footy grapevine is running wild with some wrong info especially on this subject.

My only sources are his mates who have told me that he has told them he was getting paid from the start, so either the kid is lying or Boisdale are paying him?

As I said I dont know the kid and I don't know the reasons he is playing for Boisdale.

Maybe you can enlighten us??

Boisdale isn't the first and want be the last club to pay players that others find questionable - only the club and he will know. Let's be glad that a player that is seen to have a lot of talent is playing in the ngfnl and uses this as a learning experience and maybe gets the desire to pursue his career again with power

Anyone got any the tips for the weekend??

Sale City v Rosedale

Sale City should have a winning start to the season, don't see Rosedale having the options down back to match Citys forward line.

Stratford v TTU

Stratford will improve but the bigger bodies of Tyers should see them win comfortably.

Glengarry v Boisdale

Glengarry should account for Boisdale easily, too many classier players for them not too win comfortably.

Churchill v Woodside

Haven't heard much from Woodside whilst Churchill have lost a few and picked up a couple, they seem to have a better vibe in Cougarland than last year.

Cowwarr v Gormandale

Cowwarr will have a consistent side that should have an even spread of players this year. They will be dissapointed if they don't get over Gormandale who had a very dissapointing end to 2010. Would not surprise if Gormy do roll Cowwarr, as they do have some classy players still.

Heyfield V Bye

Just too strong on paper

In answer to your question, Cowwarr will almost certainly improve on last season, and could finish 5th.

Scratch that - they are no better than last year. Watched them against Gormy today, and they were woeful. Gormy smashed them from start to finish, to win by about 11 goals.

they will be shattered the saints from all reports they were talking themselves up as serious premiership contenders maybe getting a bit ahead of themselves

Not long till round 1.
Who wants to put their neck on the line and make a ladder prediction.

I think overall it will be very even particually from my 3rd to maybe as low as 8th.

Here goes;

1st Glengarry
2nd Sale City
3rd TTU
4th Heyfield
5th Cowwarr

6th Rosedale
7th Churchill
8th Bois/Briag
9th Gormy
10th Woodside
11th Stratford

Still sticking with this ladder??

Pretty hard to see Boisdale finishing ahead of Woodside or Gormandale. As much as I got into the "hype" of Cowwarr (did they really kick 0.10 until half time) and tipped them, they (Gormandale) still have some really classy players (Sticks Richards, Skippy, Trease both Marks boys frank and Ben, sorry Sam if you read this) that are as good as any players within the league.

They were close in 09 with a similar side and will still push the top five.

The big upset was Woodside?? Any side with the big Stales up forward will be hard to contain if they win there fair share of ball but to let Woodside get the jump would be very dissapointing for Darby in his first game as coach.

TTu have more mature bodies and four or five classy players to overwhelm Stratford whilst City beat what looked a depleted Rosedale side.

Another interesting start to the year!!!

Heard last night that City have picked up another player from South Australia who is apparently a ruckmen, plus Adam Brander is coming back from Cranbourne.

Added to that the fact that Troy Carstairs is now staying (still suspended), Justin Mclay will be back from overseas and also pick ups Brad Mckay and Adam Brayshaw (Joel's brother) over the pre season probably mean City are looking stronger than last year!!!

Going to be hard for sides to overcome them at full strength just wondering how they fit under the points system??

Just worked it out and there fine!!

Interesting to see a number of NGFNL players (one of them a seconds player at Gormandale) playing senior Gippsland League Football, Andrew Winter, Kaine Bulmer, Damien Kerr (thought he was non playing) Brett Kerr.

Add Andrew and Winston Gieschen to that list as well, honestly didnt think they were going back to Maffra to play in the Seniors.

Both Andrew and Winston were very good players for Maffra at senior level before departing to the minor leagues. No surprises that they were going to start in the seniors at Maffra.

I am friends with Kaine Allen and know him very well myself, and i know that Boisdale are paying him to play for them.

What chance Heyfield against Sale City this year ? Cox ,Harris and Harry Cross are three very handy pick-ups.Heyfield don't stay near the bottom for long either as a rule .Definitely a game worth seeing when they next meet.

Why does everyone think that when a good player comes to Heyfield that they are spulrging the cash, I can tell you now that on financial terms Heyfield cannot compete with what other clubs are willing to pay for players, I have specific examples of this but won't discuss.

Harry has turned down massive offers to play elsewhere but chose Heyfield for a variety of reasons.

Harry's main reason for going to play at Heyfield revolve around his work and playing ambitions. Where Harry wanted to be as a footballer could not be reached at Sale this year due mainly to where he was living and his work situation. Heyfield were presenting the right options for him in terms of his availablilty and where he wants to take his footy, he decided to take the oppurtunity to better his football and hasn't looked back.

The team is in good shape but are very new to each other so we will take time (12 new players on the weekend) we still have seven players who are all senior players who will be available for selection over the next six to eight weeks. But it is round two and you never know what can happen (just need to look at last year).

Sale City are the side to beat and Heyfield are one of a few sides that are trying to knock them off.

Yeah it's a good culture for footy at the Heyfield fc and not just cos they got a few kids drafted in one year back then .They always seem to be extremely competitive even in years when their side isn't loaded with big name players ,only got to go back a few years when they won the GF with that side that could really only be described as inexperienced. They seem to go about things professionaly for an NGFL side too and apart from all that they can always wrangle a job for their players if they are stuck at the mill.I can understand Crossy wanting to go there rather than any other NGFL club. It's a wonder Sale City weren't sniffing around though probably highlights the lack of cooperation between the 2 Sale clubs that he didn't end up there .

No club wants to lose players but not one of the players we have from Sale has left on bad terms or under duress. Says alot about there club and there professionalism, with an attitude like that it definitely entices teams to push any players that are looking at a higher level to Sale.

Some interesting results yesterday, just shows yet again in North Gippy if you turn up expecting to win you can be in for a tough day at the office.

Sale, Glen and Heyfield must have been expecting comfortable wins but Heyfield lost and the other 2 just escaped.

Churchill smashed Rosedale for 10 mins in the 2nd quarter and that was enough to win, Rosedale basically unrecognisable from the side that did well in September last year.

A very dissapointing result for Heyfield, played ok footy for 20 minutes and nearly stole it in the end. Staley was great up forward kicking 10 and had all the space he needed as Woodside kept loads of numbers behind the ball.

From what I was told on saturday night heyfield played with seventeen players for thirty minutes after phil harris and a bloke from morwell got sent off. they weren't too concerned with the loss, heyfield were missing up to seven players who would walk into that side, the president told me szabo, trent anderson, berry, ferret neille, dinsdale and one of the dowse boys were missing plus three or four others.
