I think McGrath in 5 years will look pretty much like McGrath 2016. You can see his body is mature and he looks really comfortable - as if he might have stopped growing a year or two ago? If that's the case it makes sense how dominant he was this year... I think he is a high risk of topping out as a "good" afl player.
But i'm all like Jon Snow when it comes to knowing things

If he plays anything like 2016 McGrath at AFL he will be considered a gun not just a good player

"and how do you pronounce McGrath?"

There really isn't a lot of original content across the AFL media outlets. Most of the club-specific articles on the AFL website are reworked versions (or sometimes just posted verbatim) of things that have appeared on the club websites, and the same goes for league-generic stuff on club websites. I think they've reposted all of the 2017 going places, tomorrow's heroes and draft profile articles on the club website so far.

Don't the Club's websites run off the back of the AFL site? That's why many articles are replicated. EFC years back were one of the few (only?) clubs to have an independent web site and online presence but have come into the AFL 'fold' in recent history.

Could have said similar about Zach Merrett during his draft year.

Will Setterfields highlights remind me of Bontempelli. If we bid on him pick one Cal Twomey believes the Giants won't match. Will's a dons fan and has a very high ceiling. Don't see how we're not a chance to get him. However I still reckon we'll take McGrath

If you dig into the source code of each of the club websites then they're basically all the same and use the same 3rd party stuff to run their articles and podcasts. The only real differences are the background, logo and colour scheme and variations of fonts and graphics, with the widgets and menus and such shuffled around a bit. The layouts doesn't vary much club to club though, and they look and work almost identically. I think there is still someone at each club that "curates" the actual content on each club's website though.

I know we have our own media people, like there's a social media guy (used to be Julian Wallace) and a journalist (Simon Conway) and a videographer and whatever. Presumably there are more people in our media/PR department but they're the ones who get the front page credit :p I'm not sure what other clubs have in that respect, presumably not too far off the mark though if they want to engage their fans and grow their membership.

I can't choose.....

McGrath is a dead set certainty - a more explosive, right footed version of Ramanauskas.

McCluggage isn't as certain, his ability to handle AFL physicality is a legitimate question. But if he can, and I think this more likely than not, then his ceiling is ridiculous.

In Dodoro we trust.

Mcgrath is a certainty of what though? If he is not going to grow more or get any bigger then what we see now is the end product. I see a good afl player right now, but where is the development going to come from? The best that could be hoped is that he is a Zach Merrett. Just an innate footy beast. Well that may be the case but I'd rather go with the kid who can do it all in a regular 17 year old body. Because that shit is impressive.

This comes up a lot...trying to predict trajectory is very difficult.

That McGrath is physically impressive now, doesn't mean he won't continue to physically develop in the future. The fact MCCluggae isn't doesn't mean he will.

It's a difficult basis on whice to choose.

Even though I had been set on McGrath as my number one, I have come around to McCluggage as well.

He is terrific with his body positioning at a contest, he knows how to win the footy and avoid tackles with side steps. A bit like Sam Mitchell and can kick with both feets magnificently.

Don't understand the angst from both fan boys.

You are equating physical development, or growth, with end development as a player.

This seems a bit...well, shortsighted, given how players develop taking into account their maturing and development of environment around them.

You do realise McCluggage won more individual awards than McGrath, yeah?

This fanciful talk that McCluggage is not in the same discussion as McGrath is fanciful.

McGrath may be the better player now (if thats what you think) but Hugh has the untapped potential to be the better footballer at careers end. What would you prefer?
