The Volkssturm was a militia developed by the Nazi party in the final months of WWII as a last ditch resort to defend Berlin against the approaching allied forces.

Considering that most able bodied German men had already been killed during the conflict the Volkssturm consisted primarily of grandfathers and veterans from the first world war who were once again expected to take up arms, a regular “dads army”.
