Hope Woodsdale are ready to play at Kempton lol. Home ground won't happen

I agree, it’s an uphill battle for them.
Could there be liability issues arising with a not for profit organisation owning the ground? Even if liabilities/insurances were activated?

Ozguy whats your take on the Woodsdale saga? Even though the facilities are really bad out there, the comp needs them bigtime right now after the Campbell Town move
Things are going to turn bad, really soon.

There won't be any games at the Woodsdale ground.

Way out of the Assocation's control, from what I understand.

It is a "No Insurer is going to insure those facilities unless they want to be sued into oblivion"

Interesting that the club claim “that the insurers were happy to activate the policy” given other instances around the country with councils being involved with litigation, where the local councils have been liable. I believe the SMC has made the sensible decision distancing themselves from it. Upgrade the main regional location at Oatlands and co-tenant or stay at Kempton…

The Council and the overarching Australian Football in Australia, Insurers are the same Insurer.

And they 100% have in no way signed off on the ground being up to standard.

Even if the SMC and ODFA said "Yep, go for it", there would be no Insurance. Which is the death blow.

How do you see it playing out?
Fold, co-tenant at Oatlands or stay at Kempton?

Even if SMC do transfer ownership to the club, what does that mean for the club itself?

Fold.

They won't play at Oatlands.

They hate Kempton.

And it the transferred ownership, the club would need to raise a lot more money than it claims to need to upgrade.

I have to ask and in no way is my intent to make fun of Woodsdale as a team but how many times since 2000 have they gone into recess?
4th if this happens?

I couldn't answer that, but it was effectively 2 by the end of the Seniors/Reserves ODFA. I know of 1 since then for sure, but there could we have been another 1

2002,2004 and 2005 they were out. 2003 back for a year and runners up to Mount Pleasant I think(Scott Johnson BOG if I recall correctly)

Came back in 2006 to help effectively save the competition I guess post CH team beginning and teams being reduced.

Stuck around until round 7 2015 if information is correct, winning 4 flags in that span and were a dominant team for sure.

Came back 2022 and unfortunately languished at the bottom of the ladder.

02 recess
04-05 recess
15-22 recess
25??

2004 there was an attempt mid season to enter the season as seniors only, however a decision was made just to sit out the year entirely. 2005 saw Swansea fielding seniors only.

History is almost repeating similar to Colebrook, I believe in either 2002 or 2004 there was an informal meeting about a new entity called “Ponsonby Power” a combined Woodsdale/Tunnack side, but it didn’t go very far…

On the subject of Tunnack, who were some of their better players in later years?

Not saying he would or wouldn't be in the best but I'm assuming Jason Armstrong(Nippa) would've played there at some point.

So what needs doing to the Woodsdale ground to bring it up to standard anyway?
Buildings a fire hazard? Foundations slipping? Plumbing rooted?
From the sound of it the local council doesn't have a great deal of coin and is keen to offload it so it's no longer their problem?

So the article in the paper says Woodsdale won’t accept to buy the ground for $1? Plus 10k in assistance.

Why won’t Woodsdale accept this?
$1 PLUS $40-45k was the council offer.

Because they got caught in their own lie at how much the upgrade would cost

Easier to say what doesn't need doing.

They seem pretty confident though, currently running a raffle to upgrade their canteen on Facebook, not sure whether they have a permit for their raffle but that’s a discussion for another day

Not wrong Ozguy..

I’ll have a crack at it Gersman, however I may miss a lot of issues.
No tempering valves on plumbing, no disabled parking (solid surface), changerooms don’t meet minimum standards, no umpire facilities (umpires showered in team rooms), changeroom floor cracking, sub standard toilet facilities, waste system needs to be upgraded, no kitchen facilities, the list goes on…..

It can’t even be used in an emergency situation due to the bush land in very close proximity and only one way in on a steep gradient.

Oval wise, the surface, gradient and dimensions are poor about the only good thing about the ground is that it’s a good ground to view sport from the car, given the elevated position when you park.

From every source I have spoken to, every time they opened their mouthes, it was "It is going to cost around $150k and we have the funds promised"

Now the council minutes say "We need 250k plus $10k + Insurance yada yada yada"

Council estimates say 600k plus, which is far more in the realms of reality.

How do they think a raffle is going to raise the necessary funds?

For a one team venture (which year to year is dicey) this seems a massive outlay. No wonder the council are baulking at it.

Like Ozguy mentioned, the club is a bit delusional about the cost to upgrade.

There has been some election promises, which would still probably fall way short of the actual upgrade cost, council have made a sensible decision by not using ratepayers money as recent history suggests they might be in recess again in a few years time. Aside from the liability issues. It also, falls outside of the scope of SMC’s recreation plan, where Oatlands, Campania and even Bagdad are the SMC’s regional grounds which dictates where to throw money at.

Levendale play cricket on a privately owned ground nearby which SMC maintain, but they wouldn’t move their operations to Woodsdale due to the substandard facilities and surface.
