I'm thinking of getting a new set of cans, something with more isolation than my Sennheiser HD 429s (sick bus noises and old people talking drowning out my music).

Any recommendations? They'd have to be pretty bloody special for me to spend much more than $300.

I have a pair of AIAIAI TMA-2s which were about 240 dollars with the config I went with

Good isolation, great sound and every one of the parts are replacable so the longevity is stellar.

Phwoar, that customisation is pretty impressive. I'll definitely have a look into them.

Mind you, this description of Audio Technica ATH-MSR7s has me pretty interested

The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 is a great-sounding headphone with the one caveat that its sonic detail is so impressive that it brings out both the best and worst in any given source material.

Headphones that are so good that your favourite music will sound bad

Otherwise for great build quality, good isolation and great quality at the 300 price point would be the Sennheiser HD25 IIs.

Apparently better for rock than the AIAIAIs I have, not that they're bad or anything, but I do get a little more out of my hip hop collection than I do my rock.

I rock a pair of 449s that I bought last year for about $120 odd. Superseded now, good cans though.
