AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Steele vs Cripps. 1 is averaging 122 1 is averaging 102. Not that much difference in their stats and a big reason I’ll be avoiding Steele next year. He has been good this year but the short quarters and lack of good fantasy players and stat getters at st Kilda have inflated him all year. Crazy to think how bad we think Cripps has been all year when we look at this and see Steele top 5 in brownlow betting lol View attachment 965052View attachment 965053View attachment 965054View attachment 965055
The 22-year-old isn’t worried about the time he’s spent sidelined with a knee injury, he’s worried about the time he wasted before the injury.
“When I did it initially, I thought not necessarily that it was the end of my footy but that I had wasted a lot of time,” Flynn said.
“I was in my fourth year and I thought jeez, I’ve kind of thrown it all away.
“I had a good chat to some senior players, coaches and the APU (athletic performance unit) staff about what I was missing and what I needed to work on.
“That’s given me a lot of drive through the process and I’m doing my rehab to come back better, to work on my strengths as well as my weaknesses.”
When the 200cm GIANT tore his ACL in a NEAFL match against the NT Thunder back in July last year, Flynn was close to an AFL call-up.
Hopefully gets fwd/ruckGWS Flynn $123K Ruck ......R3 good option

Club: Narrandera (NSW/ACT)
Position: Ruckman
Height: 199 cm
Weight: 101 kg
Key stats: Averaged 23.3 hit outs in the under 18 championships
Matthew Flynn was one of four ruckman invited to the national combine. With ruckman hard to come by in this draft pool, GWS will be hoping they can get their hands on Flynn, a player that given time could develop into a Shane Mumford type ruckman. At 199 centimetres, Flynn uses his big frame to out muscle opponents, where he averaged 30.3 hit outs in the TAC Cup. Despite giving the impression that he is slow, Flynn moves well around the ground often working his opponents over running around the ground. Flynn also has the ability to play forward, often being used as a deep forward for NSW/ACT in the TAC Cup and in the under 18 championships. He works well below his knees and takes a strong mark inside 50. GWS will be happy to secure Flynn on draft night and will be hoping a bid for Flynn doesn’t come too early.
All of those guys will be at the top of most coaches 2021 shopping lists. Got to be realistic though. Off the top off my head that's 6.5M+ for 11 players. You'll be lucky to squeeze in 19 rookies with the remaining cap space let alone any mid pricers. Will there even be 19 worthwhile rookie priced players selected for Rd1 in the positions we need them?
Very happy Horse resisted the temptation to play Gould because he was sitting on so many benches all year. But also, what potential rookies/cheap players could get a game next year?
I'm thinking Gould, Bianco, McLennan, Cockatoo, Burgoyne, Flynn, Comben,
Cripps will be cheap but not a f*n chance I choose him next year.
Constantly sore, his outside game is non existent, if he cops the slightest attention he turns to water, does not have pig mode in his game at all and is happy to just trot around, he doesn't kick goals and god damnit his field kicking at times is atrocious.
Needs to learn to stop constantly wrestling and playing for free kicks. And sadly don't think we'll ever see him fully fit again. Shoulders are cooked, knees are cooked, ribs would always be sore and he spends every week in the rehab group away from training. No thanks.
You're judging his SC worth on this year alone. Go back to the previous 2-3 years and check out his "pig mode" again. He's a 120 average inside bull who bravely played an entire season whilst carrying multiple injuries and still averaged almost 100. You don't know how his body will recover. He's still well and truly in his prime at only 25 years old and his injuries will heal, he will not be playing with sore ribs forever lol. Will be 1st picked in my team next year.
No I’m not. This has been an extension of form from the middle of last year.
In his last 29 games of football he averages 98.9, and he’s copped a fair heap of injuries and a lot of games tagged that has caused him to be very disappointing.
Some scores in that span include - 66, 89, 78, 73, 78, 85, 81, 56, 85, 75, 93, 81, 95, 98 plus the 26. That’s over a 50% strike rate of games including those scores. Also 3 missed games in that span, so the average becomes even worse.
He copped the foot injury last year, now his shoulders look stuffed and not to mention the constant niggles he carries every single game. The development of guys like Walsh, Setterfield, Kennedy, Martin, Dow etc means he doesn’t have to carry the massive burden he did during those pig mode years. I also expect them to get a guy like ZWill who will only add to the narrative that Cripps doesn’t have to do everything. And you can even see it in games, he’s happy to take the foot off the accelerator and let his teammates do the work. It’s as plain as day.
"the narrative" lol
lol you’re just a deer in headlights who’s adding no facts to your reasoning for choosing him apart from the fact his name is Patrick Cripps and he averaged 115+ twice. Bet you were happy with the 640k outlay for a 91 average this year huh pal?
I traded him weeks ago because it was obvious that he was playing injured. Sucks having his 26 in your Rd18 score, eh?
The "narrative" of an improved Carlton team = less SC output from Cripps is flawed logic. Unless Carlton land a 2nd gun inside mid during the off season which would allow Cripps to rest forward a bit more, Cripps will still be required to play the primary inside/extractor role at Carlton which would still be the case if they trade in another quality inside mid. His CP average was well down this year for various injury related reasons, but is still ranked 7th overall, where as he's usually Top3 for CP's. An improved Carlton team & midfield benefits, not hinders a fit Cripps' scoring potential as his contested and clearance work directly leads to score assists with more consistent and efficient ball movement from his improving teammates.
Longer 1/4s next season will also benefit Cripps since he regularly plays around 88-90% TOG during regular length games which is right up there with the top few elite endurance mids of the AFL. Sixteen minute 1/4s did not suit his attributes as well as it did some others mids.
Contested Possession averages: Carlton 2020
Cripps 12 (ranked 7th overall -inj affected)
Curnow 9.0 (tagger/HF/old)
Walsh 8.5 (winger, more outside than inside)
Kennedy 7.5 (depth)
Setterfield 7.0 (Improved, but still has some way to go as an inside mid)
But go ahead and write him off at your own peril though. We can see how much his injury affected season has hurt your feelz this year.
I guess that's why all the big bodied mids who get a collosus of CP's are not playing well either. Oh wait...
Neale 134 avg
Oliver 123 avg

Hahahaha but I guess just boil it down to injuries. Which is fair. But bc Carlton rely so heavy on him they can't afford to let him rest so he plays every game sore and injured. Tell me how that is going to change moving forward. His game style is so inside that if he's not winning it at the coalface he doesn't try to win it on the outside. He's easy to clamp down on nowadays, he just loves to wrestle or play for free kicks. All those guys above actually try and spread from a contest and win the ball on the outside. Cripps doesn't.
And yes he's always played the primary extractor role. But he never had a guy like Curnow (who was coached wrong by Bolton, everyone knows that) finally playing bulk inside mid minutes, the rise of Setterfield who will be elite very soon, and Walsh who is playing more inside every game. He doesn't need to average 20 CP's a game anymore. Anyone can see that.
I simply don't think his game can develop anymore, he doesn't kick enough goals and doesn't have the work rate to dominate on the outside. He'll have huge games but way too many average games where he waltzes around with a guy hanging off him.
Plus he still leads the league in centre clearances, second for total clearances and 15th for total score involvements. So stats wise is still impressive, but not relating to points. In a normal year his stats still have him at 24 disposals a game, so the drop off isn't massive. His output on games and to the eye has been massive though. His scores reflect that.
Cripps 2020 average: 97.5
2021 price = $530k*
Came here to post about it haha. I'm in!
