Bugger - We really need another newspaper option

maybe if we start bugging them for one :(
Buy The Age on Saturdays and Sundays instead of the Advertiser and Mail. Subscribe to the Independent Weekly. Pick up The Adelaide Review, it's free.

Maybe none of these in themselves is your perfect newspaper, but if we are genuine about wanting change in the SA media we should support them.

Or we will get the media we deserve.

Exactly. I don't think Port supporters have a lot to complain about in terms of how much coverage they get on 5AA, I'm sure it is more than is justified by pure percentage of supporter base and of course it is driven to some extent by the relative performances of the two teams.

But that is not the point in any case. What 5AA (KG & Cornes) do NOT do, is go out of their way to put a negative distortion on stories about Port.

In fact they at most times do the opposite & are very quick to put a positive outlook on both SA AFL clubs almost to the point of dare i say it ? "mate-ship" :)

Have to say that todays articles are VERY average. He really is starting to become a desperate man, taking pot shots at the whole bet thing. Bet your life if Thommo had gone down to Alberton Rucci would have run with something like "Crows laugh it up during disaster". The man is charmed to be a football writer in a one paper town - its really like using parliamentary priviledge to accuse people as criminals.

We need to forget about hammering Rucci and start asking questions at the top end of the Advertiser hierachy - yes he's Chief Football writer but he doesnt run the paper, someone else (is the guy's name Mansell??) has overall veto I am sure - why does he let this drivel, alienating over 50% of their readers, continue?

I agree with your point, if Thompson was there he would have said that Thompson was doing have a joke at Port Adelaide while his team is on the verge of disaster.

That Rucci though, he is a Port Adelaide spin doctor of the worst kind.

For those that missed today's advertiser, Rooch's roast named John Kingsmill as the "best in print" for the 06 season.

Do you reckon your defence of him on this thread might have helped JK?:p

Wrong name. Rucci named John Kingsmill (Adelaide Review) as the best in Print.

Congrats to JK on his award, some may poo poo it but I think what Rucci said was more important...that there is a big picture and that sometimes those with shorter deadlines (ie Rucci) are more concerned with the now, and that JK can afford the luxury of deeper analysis.

Well done John :thumbsu:

Thanks, PerthCrow.
Somebody once said that all awards are complete cr ap... until you win one!:)

As for defending Rucci, his Port partisan pieces have infuriated me as much as anyone and I've told him so many times... and probably in harsher terms than have appeared on this thread.

But I've defended his right to write whatever he likes for the Advertiser which is not a publicly-funded organisation and owes nobody anything.

The Advertiser is also, thankfully, not compulsory.

He's written two things that i have enjoyed this year -- a piece praising Andrew Mcleod's courage by playing on under adversity, delaying his operation until team balance was such that the team could afford to rest him. The second piece was "Is the game going backwards?" on August 21 which was a fine piece of football writing about flooding, defensive football and the rest of it...

IMHO, these two pieces were better bits of football writing than anyone else has come up with in SA this year.
