I saw some pictures of a few of our blokes at training so I guess the off-season is over and the preseason is upon us.

Something that gives me some optimism is our apparent realisation that investing in player development is extremely important so hopefully our latest crop are coming into a club with tailored training plans ready to go.

We used to do player development in the good old days of the 80s and 90s. Then we stopped for some reason

Some new from my track watcher.
Peter Wright has a bit of hamstring tightness. Just running laps.
Caddy got a corky last week in the first match sim. Not sure how serious.
Hayes just running laps right now.
Few of the new boys did a little training yesterday.
I am hoping to have a quick look on Monday if the times line up.

Sounds like a few are back early.

Can anyone tell me if Zac Reid was back early?
Tried out some extra protection but had some bad luck again. Caught a shot of him trudging off. Unlucky

Not sure how I feel about the Jones as wing experiment. At first I was onboard but against the good wings he got exposed defensively too often. It fixed our lack of marking ability on the wings but it added to our existing issue of lack of defensive runners.

AFAIK he had never trained on a wing before playing there.

With a full preseason training for it he might improve his running patterns and find himself less exposed the other way.

His offensive utility was quite good from a wing, as you'd expect from a guy who's mostly played CHF.

yeah fair point. I hope they still have Duursma as one of the main wings though. felt like he got moved more to half back by end of year to accomodate jones/cox but I think he is the most natural winger we have. He just naturally gets where he needs to position himself both offensively and defensively.
Unrelated to wing discussion but also felt like our "groundball gets" numbers fell off when he and Hobbs got injured.

Agree, I like Duursma on a wing, think he's got the best balance of offensive and defensive running there. If Jones could play as a genuine hard running KPF that can work all the way up the ground like Nick Reiwoldt used to that would help a lot.

Duursma and Martin on the wings, Archie Roberts off a HBF, Jones off CHF / HFF is some good running power.
