Re: Official GVFL thread

Can anybody from Seymour let me know how Daniel Belsten is going?
I heard he played his first senior game last week.

Yeah, I know nothing about the boy but saw snippets of last week's game and he kicked a goal while I was watching. Actually had an easier chance to kick another about two minutes later but missed it.
The reports on his game last week were quite promising

Think Belly has played the last couple Chook Master kicked 2 goals last week and a couple of the Seymour fella's I spoke to this week said he's going ok :thumbsu:

Great kid too who has his head screwed on the right way

Re: Official GVFL thread

Also heard tonight that A Pasquali is also in the mix. Any Saints people shed some light.

Gee the saints have had some coaches in the past few years. Perhaps they need to get someone like Pasquali and let them settle for a number of years. Very difficult to build a culture when the coach is changed so often- Sheehan, McFarlane, Cooper x 2 all in the past few seasons!

Re: Official GVFL thread

Very disapointing loss for the Pies yesty. Or was the result of little impact? Did they rest players? Looking at the selected side i'd say no. Boss, Duffman, or god forbid Jim, give us a report lads.

Any news on best and fairest from all clubs. could be interesting to see some the better players and how they fair in the morrison.

The No 12 guernsey has been left in good hands. I believe Luke Stevenson won Seymour's senior count last night.

Cards fall the way of Euroa

By Christie Peucker

This weekend's finals allocations have put Euroa in the plum position of hosting a home final.
The Magpies will host Mansfield in the do-or-die elimination final on Sunday at Memorial Oval.
Shepparton United plays its qualifying final against Seymour at Benalla on Sunday and Shepparton Swans tackle Echuca at Rochester on Sunday.
Goulburn Valley Football League general manager Eric Bott said while the league attempts to configure the draw so that most teams are playing on neutral territory, scheduling for this year's finals series did not work out that way.
"It certainly is a consideration but it's not an overriding factor," Bott said.
"Benalla, we can only use their ground on Saturday.
"And we always play the qualifying final on a Saturday so the loser of that gets a seven-day break."
Leaving Rochester then as the other alternative, Bott said given its geographical location and Euroa having the catering rights, it made sense for Euroa and Mansfield to play at Euroa.

Venue has feathers ruf fled

Shepparton Swans will appeal for a change of venue for this weekend's elimination final clash against Echuca, saying the Rochester Recreation Reserve is unfit to play on.
Club president Robin Knaggs contacted Goulburn Valley Football League general manager Eric Bott on Saturday after the finals venue allocations were announced, requesting a new surface to play the door-die clash on.
"We are protesting it as strongly as we can to the league," Swans delegate Alan Sutherland said.
"We can't forfeit the game and give away the whole year, (but) we'd rather it be played on a Goulburn Valley standard ground."
Playing on the surface a fortnight ago, Sutherland said players had pulled up sorer than usual and its patchiness was a serious concern.
"The water element is the high danger, but it doesn't just need water," he said.
"The bounce of the ball on the patches of grass is a problem too."
The Swans have begun their own probe into possible alternatives, putting forward Tatura Park and Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
"Why not shift it to Kyabram or Tatura?" Sutherland said.
"Surely Rochy could do the catering at Kyabram or Tatura."
In contrast Echuca, which played at Rochester on Saturday, said it was happy to play on the surface.
"We're happy to support Rochy in their final given there is a struggle with water," Murray Bombers president Leo Welch said.
"They're doing their best to get it up.
"It's not the perfect ground, but at the end of the day both sides play on it so it's still an even contest."

Love how sutherland is now concerned about the dangers of the surface. Perhaps more dangerous than a few punches from behind!!!!!!

This is the sort of crap that is the beginning of the end of the finals each time the swans make it. The comment associated to using Ky or Tat would have nothing to do with more space on the ground? or the ability for a few blokes who like running wide to get a kick? or the ground they may have fond memories of winning on during the year? Ground is the least of your worries.
Concentrate on winning and put energy into that. This sort of comment doesnt help the perception from the rest of the league of what the swans are all about.

Agreed. Okay you mob.

Grand fina: v .
Premiers:
Morrison medallist:
Wilf Cox Medallist:

Re: Official GVFL thread

Grand final: Shep United v Seymour
Premiers: Shep United (very close)
Morrison: Adrian Dohnt
WilfCox : Michael Barlow

Reserves: Echuca v Seymour
Premiers: Echuca (easily)

Thirds: Tatura v Shepp United
Premiers: Tatura (easily)

Does everyone agree? Saw Echuca thrash Rochester in the reserves on the weekend, and both sides weren't at full strength. Probably seen more of Echuca than any other team, but Adrian Dohnt is a super little player and is going well in all Weekender awards.

Echuca 2s still have Rob Plugger Hogan out and he is one of the best set shots at goal going around. Another impressive young player is Liam Wilkinson who runs hard off a HBF

Players did pull up with bruised heels and generally sorer then usual when they played their last fortnight after extra watering was done.

I heard in Rochy last week that the ground was softer than a lot of others after two weeks of watering. It felt pretty soft under foot on the change room side which is usually the hardest part of the ground. Also heard that they had access to more water this week if the ground needed it.
