Re: Official GVFL thread

Wouldnt go that far bradrowe. Dont forget they got smashed in the finals, still a long way off the swans and seymour lists.

Add Archard, Campbell, McGlone, Whyman and Maddox to that list and they will go close.

They ran out of steam towards the end of the year, losing 3 of 4 games, but they beat the Swans easily once (and should've beaten them in R1), beat Seymour the only time they played them and lost to United by 4 points.

As you know brad it takes a bit more than a good list to be any good.
Hey Brad ("guys like Simon McCarty") dont tell me this old bugger is comming back for a game for Rochy. Might give Mcphee some company sitting at the table with a knee rug on drinking tea at the disco's though.

So you don't think adding 4 players with experience on AFL lists and another handy player will make them better?

Not sure about McCarty playing, but he would still be pretty handy sitting in pocket all year.

I don't know any late 30 year olds rug themselves up at the 'disco'. Perhaps that's a Euroa thing.

I don't think Simon would be coming back as a player. Don't think he played any footy this year did he?

From what im told the Euroa thing is for the boys to dance with the boys and the girls have to dance with the girls as the boys are too bussy dancing with each other.
Adding good players to the Rochy list didnt seem to help but maybe Echuca has attracted the right players.

The players that Echuca are adding are a lot better than the ones Rochy added this season.

Rochy's problem was they didn't really have a key defender that could take on the gun forwards. For example, Saad kicked 10, Forys 9, Murphy 5, Smith 5, Grainger 8, etc. If they had a couple of good defenders they would've gone a lot better.

The forward line and mids were pretty good (except they probably needed a monster ruckman).

Re: Official GVFL thread

The thing that may change that is that he is good mates with Archard. Balranald have offered him a fortune but he won't be going there. He won't be commiting for awhile but I think Echuca have a good chance. Kyabram have lost Burdett and Finn to Lancaster as coach and assistant respectively

Djars won't be at echuca next year, he will be at rumba and thats only if he don't get picked up by an afl club again.

Re: Official GVFL thread

So...I hear this Mooroopna mob have knocked off 4 of Heidelberg's (reigning Northern League premier) best players, what's the deal - 5 up front, 2 grand per game, no training? Watch out for the big fella, he will be a handfull up there...
i heard the same thing...

Re: Official GVFL thread

Soft? Maybe. But more like respect for the people who did pick it. It's just a well known fact that Kevin was hard done by. Maybe my term mockery may have been a bit tough. Played under Kev and was very dissapointed for the bloke. My original point was that i thought Knowles may have got a look in at least the group of 60 in the GV team. But unfortunately not many people on this thread would be old enough to have seen him play.

Well said head:thumbsu:

And you are right, there probably wouldn't be heaps on that would remember seeing Knowles play - very, very stiff not to make the 60. Great player.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Im led to believe Frankie wont be at Oak Park to 2009 if at all. Im pretty sure he is happy at the Bullants. As for Chewy, Im pretty confident he will stay at Seymour, why not go for another flag.
dont know about 2009 but raso and 3 other bullants have signed ay oak park for 2008

got any names or hints at least? is the big fella the ruckman? the nolan boys? murphy? Heidelberg aren't short of a quid so not sure why they'd want to go to the cats when they're coming off being prems and champs?

quite right head man, stored got shafted no doubt, and knowles was a gun CHF in a pie teams that never had alot of success - if he played in this era he'd be a superstar:thumbsu:

The names I have heard thrown around include:

Mick Gay - Giant ruckman, bog in granny this year.
Russ Lee - absolute gun, bergers most consistent last 5 years
Craig Whelan - Freakish forward but injury prone & missed most of the year including last two flags.
Marcus Dean - 6'4 ruckman/forward good hands/skills but lightly built.

Nothing confirmed as of yet, would love to hear from someone in the know at Mooroopna.

I heard the same thing about Mick Gay heading up to Mooroopna just this morning, and im told Mooroopna would need a bit of cash for him

A couple of handy players there for Mooroopna. I know them all pretty well and if they were to head to Mooroopna, they wouldnt come cheap.

Mick Gay - Very big man, but get found out on the bigger grounds of the GV, was very surprised to see him get BOG in the grand final. One year he was trying to transfer between clubs. Epping would not clear him to Heidelberg, so Heidelberg reportedly paid him $400 a week to sit out of footy until his clearance came through.

Russel Lee - A very quick and fit wingman who gets a mountain of the footy. His kicking does let him down at times when under pressure though. Will go very well in the GV.

Craig Whelan - Is a medium height player with great hands and rarely misses a set shot on goal. Has been very injury prone throughout his career though. Very quick off the mark.

Marcus Dean - Would be the pick of the bunch. Can play either ruck, up forward and I have seen him play off a wing. Very good hand and very fit. GV footy would suit him ideally.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Sorry guys McGlone wont be back at Echuca re-signed with Sth Adelaide but Ben Wilson ( who kicked the match winning goal in the G Final with an A Grade Amatuer side) could be returning if there is suitable employment found

Re: Official GVFL thread

Sounds like a big few signings there for the Cats. With a quality bunch of younger players coming through (Tyson Warnett, Simon Russell, James Marks) they might just be stepping up? Sorry if this has been asked but is Tim Looby planning on staying at Swans next year?

Simon is a very good footballer. He's a classy kid too.:thumbsu:
