Re: Official GVFL thread

Is Lucas White from Adelaide, is it just talk that he's leaving the swannies or is it fact !? Has he coached before and does he want to coach....

I have heard strong rumours that Damian Yze will be back at Princess park next year, also getting a few boys out of the WAFL as well from all reports.

Re: Official GVFL thread

i find it hard to believe that all the shepp swans players all get paid the same.. how else can u get the likes of white, bell, looby, veale to your club? must be a big sign on fee or something?

Most are set up with jobs, most players want jobs when moving to a new club in a new area.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Is there any truth to the runoured name change to Shepp Sparkies? :D

haha why not.. every player probably works there.. doesnt the president own it? im sure he will get sick of forking out all this money for no return.. for the amount of money they must be spending they need to repay the money givers..

There's also Hunters Transport amongst others.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Cant see the issue with shepp swans hooking up their players with work...? isnt this the best thing a footy club can do with their players. maybe other tams should help their players out with work instead of bagging the swans for being ahead of their times...thoughts?

Well, to be fair, Shepparton has a population of 30,000. Some towns have about 3,000, so the opportunities for jobs there are obviously significantly less.

The jobs for the Swans who are employed by Watters require them to work out of Shep from time to time so I'm sure other clubs could get their players jobs in Shepparton too if they try.

The logistics are a nightmare and it would involve too much travel.

I don't begrudge the Swans for doing it, it's a clever thing to do, however it's not practical for most clubs or players.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Yeah, the Swans are very fortunate to have such a draw card. Lining young guys up with a good trade. Just a bit of a humour point around the traps!

What about other clubs is there an unusual concentration of guys working and playing together?

Re: Official GVFL thread

Well Well Well, what another big spend up for the swans it looks like! Surely one day all this money spent is going to pay off, either that or they will realise that a team of champions cant beat a champion team! Spend all the money they want but its not working, well over half their team has SANFL or VFL experience, so how much beta do they have to get to win! Knags may as well jus buy an AFL team an throw it in GVFL, maybe then they will come close! Good luck next yr Knaggys little sparkies!

maybe after the last few days Knaggsie could buy the league with his sudden windfall.....

Re: Official GVFL thread

The logistics are a nightmare and it would involve too much travel.

plenty of people live in Ky, Mooroopona, Tat, Euroa, Numurkah etc etc work in shepp so why would it be a logistical nightmare? People travel for hours in Melbourne to train!!

The original argument was that clubs should get their players jobs in Shepparton. So let's say Rochester gets a player a job in Shepp. If he moves to Shepp then he has to travel 3+ hours a week to Rochester just for training. Every second week he would have to travel over again. If he lives in Rochester, then he has to travel at least 10 hours (looking into the sun on the way over and then again on the way back), plus travel on weekends for matches.

So then what happens? Does the club pay for petrol money too? How long before the player thinks, 'stuff it, I'll just stay and play in Shepp as it's central and it saves me time and money.'

Your argument is hardly valid, seeing as though Moo is basically in Shepparton, Tat is 5 minutes away, Ky is about 20 mins away and Numurkah is very close too.

And who travels for hours to train? People travel from country areas to train in Melbourne? Or people in Melbourne travel hours to train? Don't worry about clarifying that. Both are wrong anyway.
