Re: Official GVFL thread

Great to see that the "anti" Shep mentality is still alive and well. But one thing that would concern league admin would be the amount of clubs reportedly struggling. United, Bears, Tat, Ky, and not much news out of Euroa.

Is always going to happen to clubs who dont look after their locals and go poaching elsewhere. Not saying that all these clubs do, however clubs like Rochester and Echuca are always going to be competitive. Not beacuse they spend the big bucks, because they invest their time and money into promoting their junior football and keeping their locals.

Most other clubs are just riding the roller coaster............

Would query the Ky struggling comment. From what I hear the club is sound financially, they have appointed an ideal coach to develop the young team, numbers at training are terrific and Dirty is more than pleased with what he has seen, they have recruited some handy players who will bolster the senior team, Matt Deledio is apparently staying at the club and not heading to Werribee and he will certainly be a bonus and are still chasing the signatures of at least another 4 quality players to add to the list. They may not play finals but Ky is certainly on the way up.

I may have to qualify "Struggling". I was referring the amount of players leaving the league and the lack of recruits at several clubs. To me it looks as though the standard will not be as high. Early days but.

Re: Official GVFL thread

My only thought re Briggs...is why a captain of a premiership aspirant at the tender age of 26 would leave a major league club to join a minor league team?...why couldnt be honest and say the dollars were to good. Really worrying for country footy.

Well the real reason is that Briggsy is going travelling after this season and he did not want to play at united coz he has not enjoyed his last few years there footy wise. so he wants to go out to Dookie and enjoy his footy before heading off... who knows maybe a premiership????

I agree. In the last few years retired AFL players have come into GV footy and strengthened it by getting people through the gate. Has also added to the strength of teams but this year they dont seem to be picking them up. May be too early but usually large signings are unveiled by now.
Could be the year a club with a good solid list plucks a premiership without any real stars.

Either that or the grip Shepp Swans seem to have on it may be getting tighter!!!

Watch this space, a former GV rep CHF has recently purchased a house in Seymour. Even the Lions are not yet aware of this, watch the bidding begin with them, Nagambie and Avenel. Has been living in Melb for approx the last 10 yrs. Can play.

Give us some clue. First and last name would be good and we can then guess the rest.:D

I wouldn't think United would slip too far down. Reckon they will still make the six. Sidebottom, Dawes and Forys are still three of the best players in the comp. They have some good recruits in the pipe-line too I hear. And they played nine thirds last year. Schirmer back and Travis Eddy.

Yeah have to agree with ya head, and this will be evident in the rep game this year when the O&M rip us a new arseh*le. I reckon if the GV can still be in div 1 after the carnival we will be counting ourselves lucky :thumbsu:

I heard that Dawes was heading north this year and Tyson was still undecided about where he would play.

How many of last years rep side have left the comp? And surely there will be new recruits or up and coming locals who could fill their shoes.
Considering it was only a 1 points loss last year.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Sidey's already signed at united, wanted one more year there!!

yer everyone keeps sayin that sidey is goin to play with his brother at tally but think it might be the other way round!

Re: Official GVFL thread

you forgot to mention the great acheivers across the river...mooroopna or could this be the year they do something

On Mooroopna - How good will they actualy be? Are they a qenuine threat? Are there recuits quality? What are the likes of there juniors having a big role inparticular Warnett and Russell?

Re: Official GVFL thread

dont really think mooroopna will trouble many teams this year.. they may have the talent but some players such as bl campbell, cox, parsons, tweedle are all one way runners n dont work hard enough back.. as good as a player brad is, i think he has his work cut out for him this year...
