Re: Official GVFL thread

The problem with Kyabram is that a lot of their junior players leave the club after finishing up at thirds level and end up in the KDFL. It is the major reason why Ky has struggled over the last few years. They have always had strong 3rds teams over the last 5-10 years and it is a pity they keep leaving. The trend seems to have continued again this year as there seems quite a few deflecting to Lancaster althought I am not sure if they are 3rds blokes. Had these kids from past 3rds sides stuck around I'm sure Ky would have been in a much better position in the last few years. And topping up with these recruits would definitely have them playing finals. Can't see them there this year.

I dont think the 3rds that leave for a weaker league close by would be a problem for Kyabram as we all know there are plenty of gun junior footballers who can never seem to step up to the pressure of playing in a top league such as the GVFL. We all see it at our different clubs the same thing happening. Some kids just cant make it, whereas others may excel earlier.

If the reason is that the stocks have been depleting around Ky then why havent Lanky won the past 3 flags? Or even featured in the Final?

From my perspective it seems Kyabram were very keen to keep a close nit of local blokes for a few years and consolidate. All clubs go through rebuilding phases, but its a matter of what happens when the younger guys of the club start to gain GVFL experience, then with the backing of recruits such as Singh, Withers and others will encourage them to work harder to gain a GVFL senior spot.

Yeah and see thousands walk out the door and leave the club on the brink. It was only last year that Ky went to the league and discussed the fact that they may not continue for much longer

And what would you have the club do Ringo. Spend no money, recruit nobody and finish bottom 2 again. That is really going to help the club survive in the future. The fact of the matter is you have to spend money to attract good players especially when you have finished bottom 3 for the past two years. Players don't just turn up on your door step wanting to play for a club which has had minimal success. If the club didn't come out this year and attempt to improve and recruit they would have risked losing more locals and further endangering the clubs existence.
By appointing Dirty and signing a few big names the club has created a bit of excitement which is exactly what they needed. Apparrantly there are former players wanting to come back and play now (eg Afro) and reserves guys as well.
The club and board has done a great job IMO.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Yep, it's a home game and I'll be going, just wasn't sure who we were playing...
What league are Mooralbark in? Are they any good?

I can't even find the GVFL site (gvfl.com.au redirects to the vcfl site) lol...

Mooroolbark are Div 3 ( i think) of Eastern Footy League. I would be surprised if they ran your team too hard. Div 1 and top 4 in Div 2 would be a fair hit out but I wouldnt thinkj the are too strong. Alot of young kids from what I hear.

I would have attempted to recruit 5-6 recruits instead of paying Singh $1400, Atkins $8oo-1k and Withers the same which equates to at least 55k for the year. Why has'nt Atkins been there in recent years????? MONEY,MONEY and I'm sure Gisbourne were'nt going to pay him what Ky are.

Oh yeah great one Ringo, they should just stroll down to the local talent store and pick up 5-6 recruits. Gee why wouldnt Ky think of that earlier, you should ring Tat up as well and tell them of your grand plan, actually i can think of about 10 clubs in the area that you should advise. I havent had anything to do with Ky for a while, but attracting good recruits is very difficult for a small town that is over 2 hours from the city. They have done well to pick up a few players to help out the locals. Big name players bring people in through the gates/canteen/bar, its not an ideal scenario for Ky but its the best they could do with what they have. Is singh, afro and withers the answer?.....probably not, but it has created interest throughout victoria. Hopefully they can win a few games this year and then next year they will have the ability to maybe hold their players and attract some more. Hopefully Newman and Singh will kick a couple of wins Ky's way.

Hey what do you think I've been saying-I'm not typing in Braille!!!!Its my whole argument-they will not be the answer so why bother wasting 50 odd Gorillas

Re: Official GVFL thread

is it true that mooroopna have signed ryan hocking from montmorency?? very handy recruit if thats the case

East Keilor in the 2nd Division EDFL played them the other week and we kicked 10 to there 1 goal for the game. They were pretty terrible and used injuries and so on as an excuse. Its a practice match and EK also had there fair share out. In summary the were pretty sh*thouse

were are you getting these numbers from, a source that is reliable or just pulling figures out your arse.

I not sure what you guys want ky to do. recruit no one and hang around at the bottom of the ladder again. So far there are only 2 recruits from outside the area, Singh and Withers, the rest locals.

Ringo you write more crap on here than Mike Sheehan writes in the Sun. You wouldn't have a clue what those blokes are getting paid so stop pretending you do. Singh is on no where near that and Ky didn't chase Afro or throw cash at him, he chose to go back to them because some of his good mates were returning and playing there. And how do you know that Ky haven't been chasing other recruits apart from these 3, you don't know they haven't so pull your head in get your facts strait.

i know all 3 of these blokes and his $$ figures are very close. And you are right Ky didn't chase him and throw cash at him, but once singhy called him and told him how much they were throwing around of course he wouldnt wanna miss out on that at his local club!

Good on you tho Ky, it may have cost you a bit but you have picked up 3 quality players. Just hope they can stay injury free and you might be playing finals footy

You obviously don't know them that well mate, his figures are a fair way off the mark. I'm not saying that Ky isn't dishing out some coin because they are but lets be honest here, they would be nowhere near the top bracket of spending in the GVL, and its something they had to do to be competitive. Apart from the stated 3 players and Newman I would be very surprised if anyone else was getting paid anything worth mentioning.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Interesting to read the posts regarding Ky and the fact that they have gone and recruited two imports with Atkins a local product coming home to play with his mates largely because David Newman is coming back also. I think many are being harsh on the club here, they have not played finals footy for years and last year when they fielded a team, average age 19, and were getting the stuffing kicked out of them many were pointing the finger and condeming them for being uncompetitive. The club continues to support the local players and has strengthened the team by these signings. Yet many are howling the grandstand down for doing this. When Ky gets as bad as Euroa who had a mini bus of imports coming from Melbourne to play and then jump back on the bus then i would agree. Did anyone howl at the money Benalla would have spent on Stephens and Porter? I wont even go near Seymour or the Swans. I say good luck to them for being proactive and having a crack. It appears to be working as a number of locals are returning to play again. This can only be good for the competition.

Dawes closed at Dees
Shepparton United midfielder Sam Dawes is the latest star Demon to leave Deakin Reserve this season.
The 25-year-old, who represented the Goulburn Valley Football League last season, confirmed last week he would remain in Coffs Harbour where he has been based since October.
Dawes' two years at Deakin Reserve helped lift the club to successive finals appearances, however, he only managed 11 games last season through stress fractures in his foot.
In his first year in the competition in 2006 he led the Morrison Medal at the halfway point before switching from the midfield to the forward line where he kicked 48 goals in nine games.
He said it was with a heavy heart he had decided not to return to Victoria this year.
``It's one of the toughest footy decisions I have had to make, but myself and my girlfriend (Kara Blizzard) came up to Coffs Harbour for six months over the summer just for a change, but we've both found good jobs and are really enjoying it up here,'' Dawes said.
``I loved my time at United and it was a really tough decision to make, especially with guys like Brad Hazelman, Tyson Sidebottom and Matty Forys down there.
``It's probably not the right time, but it's never the right time to leave really, but our lifestyle up here is something we both enjoy and I'm sure we'll be back in Shepparton one day.''
Dawes joins a long list of star departures during the Demons' off-season including Michael Barlow (VFL Werribee), Justin Davies (Swan Hill), Duane Heuston (Echuca United) and Justin Sutherland (Leongatha).
Demons coach Brad Hazelman said yesterday while he was disappointed to lose a player of the quality of Dawes he understood his decision.

Vandermeer determined to make it to 300 games
Rob Harris
Four-time Mooroopna best and fairest Jeff Vandermeer will make a bold attempt to end his career among a successful Cats' outfit.
The 35-year-old, who underwent knee surgery last season, needs just one more game to reach 300 Goulburn Valley Football League games.
But the veteran Cat says he's returning for all the right reasons.
``I've said before I didn't want to come back for just one game, I want to play my part in the team and play as much footy as I can,'' Vandermeer said.
``I said all along I didn't want to come back for just a game no matter how much a milestone like that means.''
Vandermeer went down with a knee injury in round one last year and an arthroscope revealed the degradation of cartilage on one side of his knee.
Doctors advised him to give the game away, but he says he's determined to end his career on his terms.
``I haven't been able to do the training the other guys have been doing and I've done some deep water running and a lot of bike riding to get fit,'' he said.
``If I'm going to get back I want to get back and be an asset to the team otherwise there's no point doing all that hard work.''
Vandermeer will play half a game tomorrow in a practice match against Nathalia, but doubted whether he'd be in line for a senior game in round one.
But he said if he had to win his way back through the reserves he'd be prepared to.
``That doesn't worry me at all,'' he said.
``I've been through the tough times with the club and this is as exciting a year as there has ever been.''
First-year senior coach Brad Campbell, already a winner of three best and fairests after just four years at the club, said Vandermeer was widely respected by the group and would have every opportunity to win his place in the senior team.
``He's one of the best trainers, if not the best, and one of the great clubmen,'' Campbell said.
``He's been working hard to get back and I'm sure he'll achieve it.''

Could not agree more with this Quote, 5 years ago Seymour was in the same position maybe worse than Ky .We didnt have alot of money ,getting beat by 100 pts week in week out , we had lost town support and we where the laughing stock at one stage of the GVFL. Glen Cole, Coxy and some players said enough is enough and went out and chased up sponsors and a coach . Some local boys said they would play for nothing to lure talented players to the club to help them climb the ladder . I still remember the buzz around town when we had our first meet the coach night , there was more people at that event than we had at our games all year. There was a structure put in place and everyone in the town knew what was going on and got behind it .Since that night we have won 3 senior premierships 1 reserve and 1 U18s. The town is a buzz , Good on ya Ky for starting to rebuild your club [ Just hope you recruit the right players ] and I would love to see you up there this year , but you will have to put up with the mindless people that dont have there club running as good as yours , or are simply gealous of what you are doing will constantly try to bring you down .:thumbsu:
