Re: Official GVFL thread

Would say that there loss of players and some long term injuries would be the key. A Stevens retired
M Sharp gone to Queensland.(2nd in last years goal kicking)
B Vallender back to Nathalia. (CHF and think he was 3rd in goal kicking)
J Sheils moved on
T Evans to Myrtleford
J Martinello to Myrtleford
Jo Martinello to Myrtleford
A Symes to somewhere in Melb
J McFarlane coaching Myrtleford
Casey Robinson knee reco
Ricky Symes still not on the park
Ben Horne retired (he may play again)
Will Martinello with Bushies commitments
Add to this S McKean missed a few with a hamstring, Peter Symes did a knee, Mark Porter has broken wrist so the list of outs is fairly impressive and thats without the ones I have more than likely missed. So think this is the reason they are struggling a little.

true but wat happened to recruitment in the off season , most clubs do it , it seems basically none exsistant....!!!!!

O&M triumph over the arrogant GVFL not as good as u thought u were:D

Congratulations you beat a GV team that was nowhere near its best team. As bradrowe said, the only people that care about the interleague games is the admin of the league.

People say they don't care about the interleague, why is that?
interleage is the best players in the comp representing the league.
Why wouldnt you want to play with the best players gettin around, i got picked to play in an under 15s side and was sick and unable to play, but i remember i got realy angry coz i wanted to play, i would have got to play in the same team as dave mundy i would have loved it to be able to say you played with someone who is that god. And these days there is some very good fotballers gettin around the gv aswell as the o&m, maybe its just me but to be picked as one of the best players in the gv would be a bit of an honour i think.

There is more importance in playing for the club, then a meaningless interleague game. Pretty similar to why state of origin died in the AFL. A perfect example was of our club losing a player last year due to injury suffered in the interleague game. Also older players welcome to have the weekend off, to rest their bodies, so they are right for their club.

Under 15s is a fair bit different to senior football undercover.

Maybe if they make the interleague an u/23 concept it would work a fair bit better.

Because it's become a watered-down meaningless concept. Ten years ago they had the knock out tournament which was great. I remember watching the GV win the championship in 1994 and it was live on Win TV (which they don't even do for the GV grand final). Then they tried that round robin game over 2 days which was pointless and didn't really determine anything. Now they only have one off games.

I'm sure it's a great honour, but the concept is dying because not all the best players want to play. They have injuries and then miraculously come up the next week.

It's Under 23 up here this year Boss and has allready created a fair bit of interest.

Exactly. The younger kids are always keener to play in such a game. Look at a bloke that was picked from our club. Shane Clayton, whats he got to prove by playing in this rep game. Nothing as he has already played at the highest level and quite enjoys the week off to rest the body. Let the young guys go for it.

Yeah i suppose, your home team is your number one priority.
The under 23 concept is a very good point that you mention, would be a good chance for the blokes who went through the tac cup to get a second chance.
i remember talking to a bloke by the name of matt pendergast a couple of years ago, plays with lavi panthers now i think, he said he almost got a second chance like that , made the victoria country side but no deals ever went through is just an example.
Is there any u/23 interleague in any other leagues that people know of

i agree with everthing you have said here but keep in mind there is a fair bit of hype for the AFL to bring back the state of origin (personally i hope they do cos its great to watch) its a catch 22, and you cant have it both ways, no-one wants any of their players getting injured in a game thats not for 4 points then on the other hand you can just as easily get injured at training ,but at the same time it is a good honour and achievment,

it would be good to have the u/23 as those players can still look to make their mark and get noticed and possible go on to bigger and better things, just an idea that maybe if an u/23 interleague was created then you could put up to 5 older guys that still want to play interleague in the team to show these younger guys the way and for leadership, i dunno its just a thought

No doubt the players who make themselves available like the challenge of interleague football and the league admin get a kick out of it through bragging rights, and of course a boost to their ego!
But i'm sure the average supporter really doesn't care too much. As a Seymour follower i was more concerned about the welfare of our six players in the GVL side rather than the result of the game.

Not a great result for guys over 23 who still love representing their league. It is fine as it is - just the players who really want to play do.

Re: Official GVFL thread

how bout the rochy magoos hey! what a win on the weekend, these blokes mean business

Re: Official GVFL thread

God it's painful listening to the 'coverage' of 98.5 FM of the Rochy-United game. Most biased commentators I've ever heard.

I'm sorry, BR?
Biased? on what basis do you make those comments?
Examples, please?

Rowey...I have always found your comments on GV footy to be insightful...not inciteful...but I can't let somebody make a comment like that with no substance to back it up.

As you well know my links in the GV were with Benalla...and that was purely through Jock MacFarlane...but now I don't live in the area, I have know interest in any particular club....just enjoy calling footy.

Most people who I spoke to after last year's call on 3SR were surprised at how unbiased I was despite having sat on the Benalla bench all year.
About the only thing they commented on was that I seemed to know the Saints players pretty well.

Wes Cusworth...if he has an interest in anyone its Mooroopna...but only because he lives in the town.

John Ryan...well he's a Tatura legend...and if Tatura has a club it dislikes...its United.

Christie Peucker...having known Christie since she moved to the area...she's given no indication of who she may have a soft sport for...if anyone.

If you think you can do better, please ring the station on 5831 3131 and ask for Graeme MacCartney...he'll be happy to speak.

Your absolutely right mate. I think I'm letting the frustrating towards my teams performance cloud my judgement. I was being very flippant and offer my sincerest apologies.

Don't take that crap BR. The "us against them" attitude at Rochy has served them well for many decades. May it continue.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Very good win. First time I can remember a win in the ressies over United.

I can remember being on the end of some absolute hidings. Good to see that they are doing well. I was speaking to one of the guys today and he said they had a few out too. Travelling pretty well at the minute, hope they can figure in the finals action come September.:D
