Only really watched the "key moments" on Kayo + the bits between when there were a few closer together;

Doesn't McLean looks lean

MacDonald without the mop will take some getting used to

McInerney was everywhere, must have been playing close to 100% intensity

Big pre season for the Mc's, I still want to see a mc/mac on every team sheet line.

Nice to hear Gulden talking up Edwards and McAndrew in post match comments. I think that our Academy is maturing. In that I mean we have a lot of players going through there of quality that are progressing through to the ones. We seem to be getting at least 1 and maybe 2 or 3 each year. It is good for the Swans obviously, but it is also good for the AFL. They like sponsors paying dollars. It is also good for local footy. The players coming out of the academy also fill roles in local teams. It is a gradual process but the quality is improving. The improving quality increases the quality of players.

Sportsbet have Errol at $251....not the dumbest bet you could make....
He will win a Charlie some time or another. Possibly this year now he is in the mids full time. heck he got so many clearances. He had 45 Disposals, 3 Goals, 9 Score Involvements, 17 Contested Possessions, 3 Centre Clearances WOW

Hard to take much out of that given Carlton were barely trying, but a few takeaways for me based on the pre-season:

- Gulden in the midfield might just work. Forget his numbers tonight, he won't do that every week and teams certainly won't let him. But we've seen what a midfield with him in it can work and it looks good.

- Impressive game from Ladhams. Felt like the first quarter was really him trying to make amends for his mistake last September. Showed stupid bravery when we really needed him to just get through the game in one piece. Good on him.

- Campbell's attack was good and he more than earned his round 1 spot IMO. Just looked hungry, dynamic and clean. His goal was a beauty.

- Roberts had some nice moments. I'm almost certain most of the beautiful kicks the commentators were fawning over were actually Campbell's. The two looked uncanny from afar. But he did have some moments that showed he could make it in this team. Not sure where though.

- I think we look so much more dangerous when the two Big Macs are involved up forward than we do when it's going to Buddy. I just feel like those two can make so many contests and keep so many balls alive, while Buddy has the opposite effect.

- Kudos to Cunningham who earned a round 1 spot you'd think. I'd always believed he could make it as a pressure forward, but then when I saw him in that role tonight, I admit I had this horrible feeling it would go badly for him and kill his chances of being promoted. I'm glad to have been wrong!

- Nervous about our back-line this year. Increased umpires will mean increased free kicks. In fact I'd be willing to bet that more than ever, the team with the best defence will win the flag this year. And I'm not sure we have the best defence yet...

Has Roberts overtaken Sheldrick, lots more game time, or is it managing load?
He has overtaken him. Sheldrick is yet to get over 25 disposals in reserves. Roberts has gotten over 30 many times. His highest is 36.

Rankin is a goer. Tough kid.

Lacky McAndrew has to get more of the ball around the ground. He is a very good tập ruck just needs to mark the ball.

Campbell is going to be a super player.

My man Lachie Rankin of House Weasley, First of His Name, King of the Rangas, Breaker of Necks, Father of Cygnets, is going to be a ripper.

But he has got to calm down. He's got a temper so fiery it's like it's actually dye that's etched into his skin as it's run down from his hair. I noticed it a few times in the VFL last year, he loves a scrap with an opponent, which is fine. But his best footy came when he looked more calm and chilled out. I think the blood rushed to his head on a few occasions tonight. Looking forward to his continued development.

Roberts has not overtaken Sheldrick. Two very different players. It is like saying that McInerney has overtaken Parker. Just dumb.

Good hit out, team looked much more fluid tonight.
Blakey makes a huge difference down back with the run he gives us.
I'd imagine he's going to be tagged fairly often this season so we need to be prepared for that as quick ball movement out of defence is a key for us.

Campbell was good down back tonight, but I'm still not convinced his kicking wouldn't be of more benefit further up the ground.

Logan getting on his bike and presenting an option up on the wing looked really good and gets him out of Buddy's 'shadow'.

The whole holding/impeding the fwd is going to create havoc early in the season.

As Caesar mentioned above Dwayne was getting confused between Roberts & Campbell.
Decent game from Roberts, however 14 kicks 1 HB, disposal efficiency of 46%
Campbell 15 kicks 2 HBs, DE of 88%.

And just on our 'kickers' Logan does tend to get overlooked. Beautiful field kick.

Good hit out for Franklin and Reid who both needed the minutes
Coming off limited pre seasons.

Reid really is a decent tackler and creates opportunity as a result.

McDonald showed some real promise. I can really get behind his progress.

Gulden deserves contract talk, he is a priority with his ceiling.

Blakey played early like a guy struggling with his illness then seemingly shook that off and came good. Promising signs

Tick for
Cunningham and JMac

But final praise goes to my whipping boy Ladhams. Credit where it’s due that was a solid hit out.
