Big night for McDonald, Sheldrick and Ladhams in their bids for a round 1 appearance. The spots are theirs for the taking.

Also Mills out you'd think would mean more midfield time for Gulden again. Unless we decide to give Roberts more opportunity in there, though I'm not sure I see the point in that one game out from round 1.

I notice Sam Reid is missing. Not in injury reports, not training, not in team. Amartey is also missing in action. Are they listed to play reserves? I can't find a reserves team on the Swans site

At the local level, my club made it to the GF last season and got thrashed (very similar to Swans GF) in our worst performance of the season. This pre-season has seen our worst player turnout in years and we have lost a number of our best players. One ex-AFL player retired straight away and our other ex-AFL player was poached. A number of players have also gone to rival clubs for more money (as happens most years anyway) which means we are going to struggle this year.

I say this because the playing group has obviously been emotionally effected by being so invested in a season, only to be destroyed in the last game of the year. It just looks obvious at the moment. Now, I expect the Swans to be different, as they are all professional (and have contracts), have incredible support structures around them and are more resilient, HOWEVER this emotional apathy is a normal human reaction to trauma and every player deals with it differently because every person is different. There is no right or wrong with how they process it and I am sure they will be guided along the way, but an emotional reaction is normal - even this far from the event.

This is all to say that I wouldn't be surprised if a lack of intensity was to arise from time to time this season and I am not surprised by what history tells us about teams in our position.
I don't buy the post GF slump talk what so ever. Can't convince me that players have some sort of emotional scarring that they constantly remember once the ball is bounced in round 1. Once they have the ball in their hands they'll be playing on pure instinct, can't tell me at that moment they're going to be revising the GF in their heads.

This talk has only been thrown about because the squads on the receiving end of the last few GF thrashings were on their last legs. The complete and utter opposite to where we're at.

The only things that will stop us finishing top 4 and making another tilt this season will be one or either of - Bad luck, young players not improving, or stale execution of the game plan.

I'd love for Logan to take some angry pills to really impose his physicality. Be a bit more selfish in demanding the ball, spray others if he doesn't get it. Interested to see his body language, irrespective of his stats.

I've seen enough headlines from the practice matches so far this week to know I will absolutely not be reading any match reports from this game.

Why the **** is anything being said about these games by footy journos other than injuries and how the kids go. Flag and Brownlow favouritism being dished out in the first week of March.

Absolute amateur hour.

They never learn. Every damn year.

Tonight's report will be all about Buddy anyway.

I completely understand. The only reason I tune in is to see how peripheral players go before I don't see them again for the rest of the season.

Not saying bring back the tournament and cup , But i dunno selfishly I liked it when clubs semi gave a crap about it

I just dont give a * about these games, and can't even bother watching

as long as there is no injury I find it hard to care at all, maybe I lost my love of the game
Understandable, footy has become a dumpster fire (the industry, that is - the actual sport is still awesome to watch, albeit rarely in pre-season.)

I'm looking forward to Fox putting out a "Pre-Season" ladder after this weekend. If we get mentioned it'll probably be "The Swans are known for not taking pre-season games too seriously, and results tend not to dictate where they end up in the season proper. HOWEVER, Horse should be sh*tting himself, they've got problems all over the park, a group of older players who struggled to get game time, and the likes of Richmond and Carlton will be gunning for their Top 4 spot without a doubt. Grade: D-."
