Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

I understand this will be a challenge for the majority of you, but have a look at Watson's 2006 Champions trophy bowling figures, he was fit and did an excellent job with the ball. Bonus points if you compare his economy and wicket-tally with some of our ‘strike’ bowlers…..

He had a bad game with the ball tonight, it happens.
Should only be bowling 10 overs when he is at the top of his bowling game. He certainly isn't there yet and this shouldn't be a problem at the World Cup, provided we have a decent side that isn't carrying people like White.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

Indeed it is.

It's terrible that a young cricketer would get excited when he took two key wickets in the game, isn't it? I'm sure everyone was as critical of Lee and will all be as critical of Tait.

And Robots generally don't show emotion, so he can either be over the top or a robot, pick one.

Depends.

If you've taken wickets for a good economy, celebrate all you want.

If you've been carted all day, or just dismissed a century maker, then maybe show a bit of restraint.

You make a good point, and it's similar to something I've said.

I don't believe Watson is match fit enough or in good enough form to be bowling ten overs - I believe the Selectors are doing more harm than good towards Watson by repeatedly selecting him when he obviously can't bowl 10 quality overs.

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

So many sad sad people on here.

He made 68 with the bat opening, ran for Hayden all innings then had to bowl.

Never seen a team have more luck in a match like Gillespie did. Watson should have had him out 3 times.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

Funny thing is, his middle name is Robert :D

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

He should not be bowling 10 overs, should not be bowling at the death, and should not be batting at 7.

I think Watson's contribution to the team at the WC (providing Symonds is out) should be one of these 3 options:

1. Open the batting with Hayden, with Gilchrist at 6 or 7, and bowl 5-6 overs with Clarke bowling the rest of "his 10".

2. Bat at 4 with Hodge 5, Clark 6, and Hussey 7, and bowl 5-6 overs with Clarke bowling the rest of "his 10".

3. Not play at all.

As for being a "hack", well that would have to be the most used word on this forum. And it is often, well almost always, used by those with no idea.

Exactly.

And his decision when batting had a lot of doubt.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

And yet here you are ... after every single game and at the merest hint of an excuse ... getting safely tucked in behind your computer screen and the tightly locked doors of your house ... to demonstrate to all of us that you apparently have nothing better to do with your time than slag a guy like Shane Watson off in a style befitting some pre-pubescent child.

Life's really superbly ironic at times ... :) :)

LOL :)

Exactly.

But Watson does this 'in your face' overly aggressive carry on crap with nearly every wicket he takes.

He bowls up and down moderately paced garbage that doesn't do anything and he thinks he's some bowling machine. I guess in some ways he is. :p

Every other single Australian player knows how to celebrate a wicket without making a tosser of themselves. It's time Watson learnt alot of things.

There's celebrating a wicket, and there's over the top, idiotic, unnecessary carry-on. Which is unfortunately Watson's only way of celebrating getting a batsman out.

Or more often than not, a batsman getting themselves out.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

I'd almost want to suit up for international level, I'd actually have a much better chance of performing than Shane "I'm so cute and such a International Dud" Watson.

The worst one day international cricketer going around at the moment by a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG WAY!!!

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

Difference is, Lee's a gun, Watson's is a dud.

the thing is, they're both duds

that lee is the best one day bowler in the world is pure testament to his bowling abilities. That he can only really concentrate for 10overs a day and get wickets when batsmen are swinging is indictive of his cricketing brain

still what can you expect from a guy who does chainsaws when he bowls out no11's!

Yeah right someone who Avg 30 with the bat and 32 with the ball is the worse international cricketer going around how stupid is that. As soon as Watson gets his chance to bat higher up the order he will get his batting Avg up to around 40 and his bowling Avg isnt that bad.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

He needs to visit the Monty Panesar school of wicket taking celebrations :D

:thumbsu:

A manic lap of the centre wicket area, part running & part skipping, throwing dangerous high fives in an asymmetrical fashion.

I love it, nothing pretentious about it in the slightest just pure enthusiasm. As opposed to...

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

Okay, his 'elation' was extremely ridiculous. Anyone who goes so over-the-top is putting themself out there for ridicule...particularly in that situation. We mentioned it when Lee continually did it after getting tail-enders out.

However, Watson is being made a scapegoat because of his bowling...which is uncalled for when you look at his figures.

In his last 20 matches (counting from the ICC Super series when he started to do something) Watson has taken 33 wickets @ 23.42, at a strike rate of 26.88. Hardly crap bowling. His economy rate is the only real concern - way too high at 5.24. But the point is he is taking multiple wickets, as an all-rounder.

His batting, which suffers when he bats lower than the top 4, is the other aspect he is judged on. In the past 20 matches he has scored 476 runs @ 31.73 which, for an all-rounder who has had to adjust back into the team due to injuries, and adjust to different patterns of batting, isn't too bad.

Some people might want to look at the facts before labelling him a dud.

Precisely. Look at his figures:

In the same time he has scored 476 runs @ 31.73....at the same time as having to adjust to different batting positions because the selectors cannot seem to decide on a spot for him.

Yeah, and at the same time something that occured on one of the old 12th man cd's, might actually happen in real life (ie going for a high five, missing and getting poked in the eye) :D :p

Nice post. I don't understand why people react with such intensity and ferocity towards certain players. Take some chill pills lads.

Re: Watson's pathetic 'in your face' carry-on....

Hopefully Hayden will be out injured for at least the first part of the World Cup. Great news that is. :thumbsu:

Watson will then be opening and with Gilly there will be plenty of flying starts for the boys. :thumbsu: Plenty of quick 50's for Watto before Ponting comes in and dominates like he always does.

Watson is also a very good bowler, a great wicket taker, and we'll see this in the World Cup when we don't have to play on postage stamp NZ grounds where no bowler has any chance (except maybe Bracken but he is God.)

Watto for player of the tournament i feel. :thumbsu:

The world's best allrounder.
