Re: Shane Watson

Flintoff 33 with the Bat 27 with the ball

Watson 30 with each.

Nothing in it.

Flintoff just > Watson.

If you're saying Flintoff wouldn't get a game for Australia ahead of Watson your kidding yourself.

Flintoff's batting is superior he can hit out as well as defend unlike Watson who seems to be a one paced accumulator of runs.

His bowling is superior as he consistently bowls at 140kph as well as possesing the ability to swing the ball.

Overall Flintoff wins matches, Watson has shown fleeting glimpses.

That said Watson has time on his side and I hope he does well. The least he could do is not become a massive disappointment like Ian Harvey.

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

If Watson is fit, he is assured a place in the 11 while Ponting is captain. He won't get dropped, even if his figures are ordinary

What a load of tripe!

Watson will get some leniency, that's expected, after the summer he's been through. He will open the batting in the Chappell-Hadlee series and everyone will be hoping he finds some form. His spot could be in jeopardy, if he fails to make runs and/or take wickets as an all-rounder he won't get any special treatment for the World Cup from the selectors and his teammates. In the end, he's just like everyone else, and only form will secure him of a spot for the World Cup.

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

cricketers with blonde hair are safe from the axe cos their needed to attract the sheilas..........its all about marketing and image not performance.

that's why mop head bracken gets the gig instead of tait.
if tait were smart he would immediately bleach his hair and let it grow to a more funky length, and try and hook up with some celebrity skank.........it doesn't hurt to have your name in the gossip mags.

aussie cricket is all about the blonde.

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

if he was to improve his game he could be a very handy cricketer for us. Unfortunatly he needs to lift a little bit more.

His Record in state cricket is very, very impressive. I just think he needs some luck with his body and his game and he could become something for us.

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

So Watto has one average game after a huge lay-off, and you want him gone, but Hodge, White & Tait should get as many chances as possible?

He should have been playing for QLD, that was a mistake by the selectors, but he'll still find form. His bowling is not 100% because of a lack of match practice, his batting skill was wasted where he batted.

As for Tait, it would be an awful decision to recall him. His bowling has been atrocious up here, he wasn't able to trouble Maher (who's been in awful form) and Broad (playing his 5th or 6th FC game). With a chance to be in the squad, one would think he would be bowling his arse off to get in (ala Stuart Clark and his 8/58).

I think you'll find Clark has a bit more of a hand from the surface.

Clark playing in a game: 270, 152, 6/246

Tait playing in a game: 377, 8/408

Oh and off topic: Lehmann 2/3 off 4 Overs :thumbsu:

Of course Clark got a bit more of a hand from the surface, but the wicket here is no road. Gillespie looked far better than Tait, bowled really well and worked hard without luck, he got the ball to move at least a little bit, Tait had nothing and looked like very tame and was played accordingly.

And NSW has made 270 & 279 on the WACA wicket showing batting is possible....

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

Cricinfo :

13.6 Watson to Loye, FOUR, two in two balls! A touch more orthodox this time, but the same result. Watson just losing his length at the end of that over, and he lacks the pace to get away with it on this slight pudding of a pitch
Admittedly he misses a few as well
13.5 Watson to Loye, FOUR, short and spanked! That fizzed over midwicket! When he hits it, it does stay hit ...
13.4 Watson to Loye, no run, outside off again, but a tighter line and again no shot
13.4 Watson to Loye, 1 wide, way outside off stump and swinging further away
13.3 Watson to Loye, no run, full bunger, and Loye misses out as he slaps this one to cover
13.2 Watson to Loye, no run, attacking intent from Loye, who stands tall to smear that into the covers, but it's not timed
13.1 Watson to Loye, no run, good first delivery. Decent pace, hint of outswing, left alone by Loye

Re: Give Watson the heave ho

Cricinfo :

Good work ignoring all of my sensible points.

Your right, we should judge a player off one over, could write off just about every international player.

At any rate, as I said, his bowling isn't 100% because he hasn't had match practice..

His bowling is poo. His batting would be reasonable up the order, not suited to number 7 though. However there are no middle order or opening spots up for grabs. Give him the Heave Ho

haha, we've all seen Johnson bowl in domestic cricket.

The biggest dud I've ever seen and he is IN the team.

Argument to that?

He isn't and never will be an international player just a 140 kp/h pie chucker.

And I hate to tell you but the wicket at the Gabba is a road and to suggest Tait should be discounted on one 1/60 off 17 overs one day performance is ridiculous and extremely biased. Considering Watson and Johnson are undeservedly playing ahead of him and guess what, they're Queenslanders.

where's your argument?

white in for watson

tait for johnson

get rid of the undeservedly playing dud Queenslanders and you have a decent team and everyone would agree with me. but biased queenslanders like yourself but to be honest I think based on what you've said here no one really cares what you think.

oh please, he's the biggest dud going around. (even moreso than emo johnson)

can't swing it, bangs the ball into the pitch tries to bowl fast and more often than not unless the pitch is doing everything for him gets smashed to all parts because he's a dud of a bowler who can never be relied upon to bowl 10 overs.

He is robotic, over coached and not able to hit due to not having the best eye.

His bowling rarely gets any lateral movement and you are right, is generally poo.
